300 tdi advice

Hi everyone, I've got a R reg 300tdi discovery that I use as a off roader. Last pit day we ended up deep water (deeper than we thought) and drowned the electrics do the imobaliser cut the fuel off. We had a snorkel and have run a new basic set of electrics so it now runs. But it's running rough with lots of diesel rattle and blowing white smoke out the exhaust and it's well down on power. The timing case would of filled with water and I'm assuming it's jumped a tooth. Before I start stripping it down has anyone had a similar experiences with these engines. Many thanks.

If the immobiliser has engaged - then you would not be running with rough idle / driving, and white smoke out of exhaust.

Have you removed the glow plugs and cranked it over to clear the water? Have you checked the Air Filter pipework from snorkel all the way to the engine inlet? Have you checked the hoses from Turbo through intercooler et for delimitation / splits / pinholes?

Air filter disintegrated and bits drawn into the inlet manifold and jamming valves?
Otherwise headgasket is where I think your problems lie, but start with the simple stuff first.
They are an incredibly tough engine, but nothing is indestructible.

OP asked if the imobiliser cuts the fuel off, hence Carole's and my replies

In the OP: it gives the actions that ended up in the fuel cutting out - and as it stated the basic wiring was changed and is now running rough - I assumed "the electrics do the immobiliser cut fuel off" statement was containing a typo, because if one had changed the wiring to the immobiliser - one would assume you would know what it was connected to therefore would already know it cuts the fuel off, so the statement seemed to highlight to me that the "do" may have been supposed to be a "to", but I will stand corrected!

Sorry, yes it should read' so the immobiliser cut out, I've wired up a separate switch that has a live to the pump and a live to the starter so effectively bypassing the main wiring loom

Checked the air filter pipework and the turbo spins freely the engine never took on water as the filter and air box was bone dry when we pulled it out
