344: AHDB Beef & Lamb: Using EID and collecting data

Written by Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board

In this Food and Farming podcast, Knowledge Exchange Manager, Emma Steele, chats to Shropshire Beef & Lamb Strategic Farmer, Neil Brown, about his use of EID and using the information he collects to make management decisions, including weaning.

We are also joined by Matt Blyth from BLAS UK, who is supporting Neil in recording and utilising data on farm. Download the podcast today to discover more about the improvements Neil is making on farm and what he hopes to achieve from being part of the Strategic Farm network.

dont know about them ,
but this i found

is a down to earth bit of advice Spin,

Imo anyway, just to get an idea of how the lambs are doing because sometimes even a good stockmans eye isnt enough .
can do it with just a simple(ish) tag reader and simple(ish)😬 weigh scale(y)
Poppy is a proper sheep farmers Daughter.
like she says dont even have to religeously weigh them all ,just a good average will show whats going up , :) or down :( can then take some sort of action or not ......

but by using a reader communicating with that weigh head they are using in vid the weigh head will do the maths for you, and give dlwg's / wg's overall or individual ,
if wanting mob /flock average just don't let it record the lowest or highest weight lambs ( outliers) as she says

Got to be practical useful and doable by non rocket scientists' hasn't it :sneaky:
