Those truly were the days and base interest rates were 13%I remember back in 1984 we were trading in a 1980 Leyland 272 for a new Massey 290 and the difference to pay was £5200. Those were the days.
and wheat was £150/tonThose truly were the days and base interest rates were 13%
how much is wheat now??and wheat was £150/ton
Could be worse, you story could go like this, I bought a new tractor for 70+k and in three years it was only worth 20k , or even better i bought a good secondhand one 10 years ago for 20k and now its worth 22k and i have put 10k hrs on it. Take your pick.Prices from the past seem to upset me. Dad often talks about how they bought this and that for what now seems very little.
As I always say to him. It may have been tough but at least you could buy it.
I guess my tales of the past will be something like.. "when we were going to buy a new tractor and loader back in 2018 it was 70odd thousand, so we didn't"
Samehow much is wheat now??
I can still remember my grandfather being outraged that "The Gov't had bought (some near neighbours) a new tractor" under FHDS; a scheme that his principles would not let him take part in.There was a FHDS (farm and horticultural development scheme?)grant scheme available in the late 70’s and early 80’s I seem to recall. It was before my farming career. Just earwigging as a junior in those days. Quite a lot of shiny metal arrived here in the early 1980’s on the back of it I guess
We only got 10% towards machinery, not sure it ever any more, it was more for grain stores etcI can still remember my grandfather being outraged that "The Gov't had bought (some near neighbours) a new tractor" under FHDS; a scheme that his principles would not let him take part in.
