Any opinions and user experiences of the following makes as looking to upgrade from a Kuhn/Accord 3m Suffolk coulter machine. Wanting disc coulters this time around.
Amazone
Kuhn
Lemken
Kverneland
Kuhn is a cock of a thing to work on when it starts t get worn. Genuine parts (bearings, bushes etc) are odd sizes and a rip off, it’s difficult, but not impossible to get non genuine spares to fit. Ours is 2009 so maybe they’re a bit different now but definitely don’t think the power harrows are what they used t be. Been in the guts of ours 4 times so far. It makes a decent job, but it’s heavy. I wouldn’t buy another.
lemken very popular round here and their crops always look well.

We will have a 7930 on the front but no front linkage so would opt for a rigid 4 metre. Land is medium loam with odd pockets of heavy clay in some fields. Some ground will be worked with sumo and weathered and later maize stubble will be ploughed. Not looking to buy a new outfit as we run a Vaderstad rapid to do the majority of the sowing. Personally I like the look of the KV S drill pro as it seems simple without too much complexity to the design. I have no idea about KV power harrows as we’ve always ran a kuhn.

Ive come to the conclusion the simplest machine is a Andrew Guest machine. Refurbished old Kuhn Accord stuff. Simple 3 row stagger on strong springs for penetration.

Folding or non folding?
Front or rear tank?
What size tractor?
There can be a massive weight difference depending on the setup!
Personally I’d be looking at horsch, I can put seed in the ground when none of the neighbours can drill with there setups, both trailed and combi units.
Not that it’s always a good thing but it does allow more drilling opportunities, especially when your fighting the weather.
Mines 4m kv power harrow and horsch pronto coulters, front hopper and press keeps the tractor well balanced.
Phil, your combi a kv power harrow with horsch coulters did you spec it like that or did you buy it 2nd hand?
I am seriously looking into a 5m combi and like the horsch coulters, not sure horsch do a 5m combi.
Perhaps fix them behind a kuhn of maschio?

Suffolks are just not ideal in clay land i know i put up with one for nearly 20years. never again.
Disc Drill twice the drill.
yes its a lot more heavier & more money to run.
But it buries seed far far better & can run in quite trashy conditions.
The bigger 6m size combi's i like the best are them Horsch KR units. mind they make a tidy job.
Kuhn Power harrows of course.

I bought it as a complete setup, Brocks built it. The PH and coulters where second hand and they put them together, I’m guessing the the pronto the coulters came off was past economic repair! I have done quite a bit of fine tuning to get everything running as I like but am pretty happy with it now. I’ve done quite a bit of contracting over the past couple of years with it and keep getting more as the customers seem very happy.
Only real thing I’d change now is as you say Kuhn or Maschio PH, I know someone running pretty much the same setup on a Maschio and it’s a lot lighter setup.

The accord discs are toys compared to the Horsch, Pottinger and others mentioned.

Sulky is heavier again, we can put beans in 2" into clay below the powerharrow depth. The accord would just bounce over the top.

Can you lift the coulters out of work from the seat?
The horsch turbo disc or pressure disc coulters seem good, I like 150kg pressure so perhaps would not have to work the power harrow very deep.
Is the horsch power harrow a kuhn?

No, but it wouldn’t be a massive job to make it possible. I’d just have to replace the adjustment links with hydraulic rams and machine some sort of stop to set the pressure.
This is what most of this year’s drilling looks like, pictures was a couple of weeks ago. Been very happy with the establishment considering the weather we’ve had!

The maschio aquila being a lighter powerharrow than the kv then?
The aquila seems to be a good solid powerharrow, I only have ever known kuhn.

Would anyone hazard a guess how much heavier a 3m Kuhn / Accord type Combi Disc drill would be as compared to the same Suffolk coulter ???
Accord dax with the proper heavy duty coulters I'd say 1/3 at least accord with light discs on the end of normal Coulter pipes not that much .

We used to have the HD one and a JD 6920 was only just man enough to lift it with 500 kgs in

I’ve known first hand experience with the Maschio but I’ve been told by a few people that they are a light PH. They definitely look a light machine compared to the kv!
