I see that Frances O’Grady, General Secretary of the TUC, has called for another bank holiday between now and Christmas and wants an additional 4 to add to the 8 England & Wales already have. Scotland have 9, N. Ireland 10
She cites the fact that the EU average is 13

I’d scrap all bank holidays but let folk keep the same number of days in their holiday entitlement to take when they like. I never understood the point of bank holidays. Let’s all sit in a traffic jam with just a few businesses open.

Once got asked by a US kid how the British celebrated thanksgiving. Didn't say much for the US education system !!!

Not especially keen on more of them, but November 11th is an obvious choice as is, for me, June 15th.

If we wanted to be entirely apolitical, each of the solstices and equinoxes could be a good call...

November 5th, in remembrance of a man who wished to overturn the status quo, had a clear political policy with no financial gain for himself. We already have the infrastructure set up, bonfires to clear the dead wood, jacket potatoes, mulled wine, sparklers and fireworks (HSE permitting).

Not especially keen on more of them, but November 11th is an obvious choice as is, for me, June 15th.

November 11th is a bank holiday here and VE Day

I suppose November 11th isn’t likely to catch on as it’s not much of a time of year (weather wise) for a day off. Early hunting season so popular here for that

I’ve never counted them up and there do seem to be a few holidays in May but I don’t think there are anything like 13 bank holidays here in France

Trafalgar Day is October 21st.
