As above, for field margin topping without taking more crop than I need to therefore need to find narrow compact tractor but balance power requirement as don’t want to be crawling round. Thanks

I run a 4ft on a jd 855 which is 19hp on pto. Wouldn't want any less on heavy going.

Shameless plug. I've a real strong wessex 6ft for sale. Ideal behind a 135 or Ford 4000. Proper smart bit of kit. Shame about the blistered pressing

I’m suprised you lot are getting away with 20 ish hp on a 4 ft flail.ive stalled my 6620 on a 2.8 metre flail before in really heavy going.

Think it's all relative. We're not talking cutting a foot of wet grass at 15kph.
25hp Will trim 4" down to 1"

You're going to want more horses and a stronger flail doing field margins

How narrow can you get a 135?
12.4 wide rear tyres on my 135 and it will narrow down to 64” overall width. Mower is 1.4m cutting width and 1.5m overall wide. Book says it needs 25 to 35 hp.

I have a 2.4m Kuhn flail which takes more power to run compared to the 1.4 m dragone. The Kuhn needs 100 hp minimum to travel similar speed to the dragone in the same two feet high mix of grasses, cow parsley etc. The kuhn mulches the mowings more which I guess is where the extra power is needed, along with bigger rotor and heavier flails etc.
