Need to get broadband in a property.
Don’t want wired, as it’s the most basic, slowest broadband you can get.
We get excellent o2 4G which is much faster and more reliable. So what 4g router is recommended? What deals are there about?
Don’t want a phone as a hotspot really.

the problem with mobile broadband is the ping if you have any online gamer's in the house
my sister is on three and it was great for the first 2 years then three moved the mast and know she has no signal

It’s to do accounts and online banking while caring for relatives so not that fussed.

Three is £22/month for 2 years unlimited data but they won’t sell as they can’t guarantee it’ll work.

o2 is £38/month for 2 years 150Gb data and we have an o2 mast on our land with excellent 4g.

Landline broadband is £30/month, but the speed is awful and it keeps dropping out. Thought 4g would be a lot better.

Router like this would do your job
TP-Link TL-MR6400 300 Mbps 4G Mobile Wi-Fi Router, SIM Slot Unlocked,

Edit
The network usually provide a router with a contract, but they tend to be basic, & will be locked to that network
I've had 1 of these running 2 yrs now and really pleased.
Avoid version 3 tho, it doesn't have the removable antennas and needs alot stronger signal. I can have 3 bar signal on a version 2 where the version 3 had no signal.
3 bar signal happily run a few devices streaming TV and other devices browsing etc

This was the ping we were getting when we were on EE 4G
A quick google suggests gamers are happy with pings under 100

Our tp link mr6400 is happy to use a standard phone SIM, doesn't need to be a data only SIM.
So you could by a 4g router and try a sim in in for a day, even your phone SIM some evening and see what you think.
I have a 200gb /month SIM and haven't max out yet

I got a Huawei gigacube when I switched to Vodafone in January, can't fault it. Excellent signal around the house, decent speeds of upto 80mbps, latency is anywhere between 20 and 50 which is more than adequate for online gaming.

I grew up with a 75ms ping and that was enough

But not important if your not planning on spending your free time going pew pew with online games 😂

Any recommendations for an external router or one with an external antenna? I need to get WiFi into an office in a metal cabin and I think this would be a better option (there is good 4G signal outside).

Have you got line of sight from an existing broadband service. If so a pair of these would get a a signal to your office

Otherwise have a read through "Mobile broadband & 4G Wifi threads further down this page

Can you get a decent signal in the cabin, even at a window?
If yes you probably manage with a good 4g router. Just make sure it has removable antenna and you can fit an external antenna later, something like these
