i for one, dont like this new form of making money from talking, writing making amazon films about farming ? started 20 odd years ago with jimmy farm on TV ? seems the latest fashion the luvvies now have todo make a tv series about farming ? The actual business of running a farm is not the main object its the money made off the programme, if looking at the returns from farming its pretty poor? but you get the perks being a celebrity such as tax breaks, somewhere nice to build a big house ?

In the summary I saw he did say he origonaly though farming was a doddle until he got involved. He was surprised how hard farming was. Constant battle with the weather, low profitability etc etc.

So if the message is it is bloody difficult producing quality food at a reasonable price, that is no bad thing

I agree. I think Jeremy has a good way of getting the point across. We dont have to agree with him, nor wonder about accuracy, but even though he does go for sensationalism to a degree, some of his points are worth the debate.

I agree with his statement of getting rid of defra. we have similar issues here in Ireland with our dept of agriculture. So having someone looking to cull civil servants isnt a bad thing. It will never happen, but if people make enough noise about some of the ridiculous stuff that comes out of these bodies, maybe they might be more realistic with some of the rules they enforce

Jimmy was a disgrace and painted farming in a horrific light with his terrible welfare and terrible attitude.
I hope Clarkson doesn't do the same, I'd guess not.

Jimmy was clueless but thought that he knew it all, whereas Clarkson will make a virtue of being clueless.
I think this could really work. A clueless person (not personally clueless just farming clueless) like Clarkson could really expose how clueless DEFRA really are. Whereas we all know how clueless Defra are but because we have always known this we have now come to accept it as normal and nothing can be done about it.
