5 to 4 pin 3 phase plug

I've just bought a 3 phase compressor with a 5 pin plug, I 've got a 4 pin socket where I want to use the machine, can I put a 4 pin plug on and which wire do I not use, or do I replace the lead and the plug and lose a wire at the motor end?
Presumably I can't lose one of the 3 lives or the earth so do I lose the neutral?

Yes you need to loose the neutral, but first you need to check whether the compressor requires a neutral. Most compressors don’t but some do.

How would I find out? From the manufacturer?
It is just an ABAC 200litre job, can't see it being in any way special.

Has been on here before to be fair. The neutral isn’t needed on a three phase motor but might be needed for the switching/control gear. You’ll have to have a look in its guts.

Take the cover off the terminal the start / stop box and see if the neutral is connected.

You are right only got 4 wires, put a 4 pin plug on and she works.
