We are running down our commercial suckler herd in readiness for a major farm move. As a result our herd bull, Challiewood Hero Star, is now redundant.
He is a lovely, calm, well fleshed bull bred by D A Sapsed of the Heathbrow herd at Codicote (but was owned by his daughter, Jo Woodman). He is 4 years 9 months old and has been our bull for almost 3 years. He is used to electric fence and daily moves, is halter broken and can be led without problem and likes the occasional bit of fuss. We are a in a 4 year TB area but, due to one inconclusive early last year at a routine test, were under annual testing until August after repeated testing last year. As a result he has had 5 TB tests in the last 2 years and passed all 5, the most recent being 27th August this year.
He throws excellent calves which calve well and have sold well as stores. His calves this year can be seen on farm.
We are not a high health herd but rarely buy in cattle and have no livestock neighbours. I am happy to have him tested for BVD, Johne's etc at my cost by our vets.
We are looking for around £2000 for him. It would be a crying shame to send him in for slaughter.
