540 - 1000 pto topper question

Looking for a new topper but want it front and rear mounted with sideshift. The tractor has a 540 pto shaft at the front but we are told it’s actually a 1000rpm drive line. So what topper gearbox is suitable ensuring it’ll run properly?
In my opinion a topper with a 1000 pto system would be stronger than a 540 version so when it’s rear mounted it could go on a 1000 spline shaft but it also needs to be 540 for front mounted?
So irrelevant of topper make how are people dealing with it when swapping front to rear?

But won't the topper spin the wrong way if swapping between front and rear?

I have a front mounted topper, if it goes on the rear I have to rotate the gear boxes 180 degrees and also re position the trash guides under neath to get that to be spread properly

I have a mashio topper. It has linkage for front and rear use. Pop the pto on the side you want and attach the tractor. It’s a 540 shaft and our tractors are all push button pto speed selection so easy.

My understanding is all front pto are 1000 speed. Certainly on our JD and Fendt tractors they are.

We run a Mashio Bufalo.
It can be front or rear mounted, 6 spline 1000 rpm, no change of rotation + side shift. To change between front or rear just mount the machine on the tractor and connect the pto, no other ajustment needed.
This is on a 724, as if that makes any difference.

As above. It will have front and rear frames for mounting. Most flail toppers are 1000 speed but run a 540 shaft to enable front and rear use. Not masses of torque going through them either so the 540 shaft will be more than man enough.
Just check rotation direction with the flail dealer or manufacturer stating which tractor you are putting it on.

Topper has front & rear hitch, with 2 input shafts, so swap PTO to other side?

Agrimaster RV have front and rear mounting points, gearbox can be driven from front or rear and in either direction of rotation at 1000rpm ours has a 6 spline shaft, I suppose if 21 spline was needed it just requires a shaft with 21 spline end

Gearboxes with 21 spline shafts are not cheap to source as it is not commonly used, I can see little issue with using a PTO shaft with 6 one end 21 the other

21 spline was only introduced to prevent accidental driving of machinery in a dangerously high gear. It also allowed some of the older tractors with a solid shaft when stationery to be attached more easily. The standard 21 spline could not take more torque than the 6spline leading some makers to introduce a larger diameter 22 spline for high hp applications

My Fendt 724 came with 3 shafts. I have just found out what the 3rd one is (y):giggle:
