I have a 550*45r22.5 tyre which when blow up slowly gets a bubble in the side wall. If you take the tyre off the rim there is know sign of a hole and there is know damage to the outside. The tread is like new on it and it's to go on a trailer that never gets used on the road. Is it possible to get a tube to go in a tyre this big?

Tubes the only option really if tyre wall has gone porus as I doubt gunk will sort it unless gallons are used and then it will be expensive

From what you have written above I conclude that the side wall is damaged and needs reinforcing so a tyre gator patch is required.............................

That's all well and good but is the air getting into the middle, left or right of the bubble? I may miss the hole into the bubble and have to strip the tyre back off and try again several times before i get lucky.

Likely its a cross ply flotation tyre, I've seen ones do that before.
If its just used on slow farm work you might get off with a decent gator inside it.

Put a tube in it. It could be getting in at the bead and be impossible to see the problem.

if there is definitely no damage internally you should be ok. No idea if there will be a tube the exact size but one close will work. Can be surprising how far they will stretch.

If you do find a tube to do the job then you will most probably have to run at a higher pressure to stop the tube rubbing on ribs inside. We’ve a tractor on Michelins rear tyres tgat are cracked and porous running with tubes now and having to run them at between 25-30psi to stop pinching the tube! Not ideal but ten times better than £1500 to replace 80% tyres!!

surely if you have 80% tread left michelin will entertain a claim?

I had Titan digger tyres do this, you cannot patch it as the leak into the carcass can be anywhere, try a tube if it lasts then its OK o if it damages the tube you will have to scrap it.

PS Titan did give me some "help" with the first tyre to go wrong.. it was about 4 years old

I'd try some gunky stuff in it as a first resort. If you can't see where the air is escaping from the inside, the hole must be tiny. Very frustrating type of puncture this. Ordinarily you would use a plug to seal a puncture if you could find the hole. A tube is a pain in the but and will soon wear through but should get your through for a fair time.
