56 bale handlers... what are they like?

Thanks for the tag @Oscar , yep have used a couple makes over the years but the browns are by far the best. Designed to carry big bales or small. Can carry up to 10 four stringers. I am thinking about selling 2 of mine if of interest. One is older with no brakes. One is newer with polybushed wings and trailer brakes ??

I had a Browns one once. I found that because the arms were pivoted at the front, there was more squeeze pressure at the back than at the front so as I picked up the stack, I would sometimes lose some from the bottom row. To counteract that I welded on some short spikes in the centre.

My neighbour had a Chillington bale carrier and that had arms that only went half way. On the inside at the arm ends, there were hinges to which were attached a full length arms. The effect of that was that the squeeze pressure was the same at back as at the front. I don't recall him having much trouble.

Logic one here, griping bars hinged in the middle so equal pressure from front to back and does not need a center pole.

My Dad built one in 1977 using old JCB and Drott rams you had to be very careful when squeezing in order not to pull it apart as the rams were far too big for the machine however it lasted nearly 40 years and I still have the Ferguson trailer frame it was built on.
