I'm looking for a trimmer for our MF5610 100hp tractor to replace our Bomford Highwayman. It needs to cope with 3 year growth as we are in Mid Tier. Main line brands preferred, simple rather than worrisome rats nest electrics also preferred.

So what size machine will our tractor cope with? Anyone got anything decent for 5k or do we need to be spending more. 400ac fairly flat farm.

We've got 6 trouble free years from a used 8 year old 5m McConnell with electrics that cost £6k.

I’ve got a twose 520 I think, had it 12 years now and apart from the odd cable it’s been faultless.cheaper than McConnell and bomford but just as good.

Not my business, but why do you want to thrash £6+k into scrap cutting 3yr growth, and spoil your tractor into the bargain.
At a guess you'd get your hedges cut in 40hrs/year by a decent contractor, it's the one job I wouldn’t dream of doing myself.

I have one of these too and I like it but not sure how it would be on a 100hp 4cyl, I run it on 6cyl 120hp JD and it’s a good match. I think nick has a similar set up. Was less than £5k 4 years ago. However I agree with the poster who said let a contractor deal with 3 year growth. I often deal with 2 year growth and it’s quite a lot worse than 1 year (unsurprisingly).

I’d agree with this about contractor.I use mine on a 6620 Deere and only do 40/50 hours a year but I enjoy it and have lots of hls hedges to cut and I love driving tractors,as sad as that sounds

More like 2 weeks work. We've used contractors in the past, the good ones are all busy, the bad ones are, well, bad.

I have a B49 and would think one would be in your price range, bought it second hand must have had it for about 12 years now and yes it has electrics but apart from replacing the joystick just after I had it its been fine, use it most on a MF 3075 and it copes fine with no weights and I drive some silly places, I have had it on our 2wd MF 3060, needs a few weights and obviously restricted a bit by grip but it took it on fine

Hedgecutters in that price range are like hens teeth. I've sold 6 machines already this season between 3 and 6 grand. All sold within hours of being advertised

I've a pa590e Yr 2000 joystick control tidy might be for sale if I can find a replacement, not sure what it's worth though?
