I went the other way. Semi to mounted. More manoeuvrable, easier for traction in the spring with wet ground and lots of fym. Most importantly lots cheaper. Still have the old semi here and I couldn’t tell you the last time it was used.

My neighbour ploughs with a 6430 130hp? and 4f reversible auto reset KV.

I often question myself when i can't get going with my 5f and 100 clearance kv and t7 260 and hes still going!

Why does extra furrows require so much extra hp!?

Heavier plough.? Different tyres.? Different weights,..? One of my tractors is on 620 and will pull the plough much better with less tread than the other on 650’s.

Pulling a 7f kv semi and thought I’d struggle with it but seems to manage fine compared to pulling the 5f mounted, still spar through wet holes and fairly steep parts that I would with the 5f anyway. New tyres does help. Think it would have been better to fitted 580’s instead of 650’s tho.

Quite fancy some 20.8/42s. Going on other thread there good ploughing tyre.

On 650s at moment, as has been already said you can't reduce tyre pressures enough cause when you lift plough huge increase on weight on tyres.

6f KV 85/300 here on a 230hp tractor no problem.
Id say a KV at 85 clearance will be pretty safe but its the 100 clearance thats the killer
plus the plough further back in this thread with the 7 furrows is only a shearbolt type
must look up the difference in weight to the AutoResets & is it 85 or 100 i bet its only 85
Alot is to do with the operator & shock loads at the ends say or crossing any wheel ruts whilst up in the air,
Them Beams will only stand so much flex & how may rocks you hit, plenty here the Springs are rearly still on all land here

I'll just add when folks say oh you dont plough that Fast, & my reply is i want it too last not snap in HALF !!
ive had all 5 bodies trip on really big rocks & if you take your time thats what its designed to do.
cant relate to kph as much but regular ploughing here is between 3.5-4mph not much above that 4mph i can assure you.
not for the want of HP its just the unknown rocks & playing it safe.

There is plenty who say if ya on 30 & 42" rims its better to go 70profile on both i think & you end up with 520 fronts & 620 rears i think
which are prerry much the 20.8's your on about Rear wise anyways.
We always compromise somewhere as the same tyres are better at ontop cultivation if there just a little wider i guess.
I find the diff with the likes of the 7499 is its a bit heavier so losses are minimum with the 540/65-30 650/65-42s
but any lesser a tractor there be more diff (Does that make any sence)

Going too fast will also make the weeds grow much more. I don't know about everyone else, but i don't like driving around the fields with the sprayer. I'd much rather drop the ploughing speed than spray the field.

if you go much above 4.5mph the skimmers dont get enuff chance to bury what there skimming neither, poss more room on a 100 clearance but
ive never felt ive lost much ploughing options with the 85
i do have a 4fr Model F thats long clearance & its more usefull doing small gameplots etc & does pass the rubbish thru easier.
but its fixed at 14" & i run the 5 at 16" everywhere even on the heavy stuff, once weathered the land breakdowns much the same.

7 furrow lo85 here. When its on its onland position, which is 95% of the time, its fine as it seems evenly balanced on the tractor putting it in furrow pushes it back about 2 ft and puts the majority of the weight on oneside. The biggest dislike is the twin depth wheel contraption. Yes it is very stable in transport which is good as we do alot of shifting about but in the field its extra weight at the furthest point from the tractor.
The 9 furrow dowdeswell fully mounted I used was definitely too heavy to be swinging around out the back ?

When we still had our 4 furrow our 6430 would make very light work of pulling it and the 6930 would be struggling to move with 5 on I think the 4cyl are just a better balanced tractor for the job . I have had my 5 furrow es100 on the 64 but only for a wee while and it went well but was to much for the lift

I have an MF 5465 (120hp 6 cylinder) on a KV 4f variwidth auto reset and can usually plough fully opened up at around 1200rpm, 5.5kph. I don't need the auto reset though, and this is certainly as much weight as the tractor can stand. I keep looking at conventional (ie non reversible) 5 furrow ploughs on ebay.

Our 5610 Mf (3cyl 105hp) managed our Kuhn 4f reversible autoreset plough well. Wouldn't want bigger on it though.

And we're also looking to swap the Kuhn for a 5 furrow conventional plough, as our Deere likes to play submarine with Kuhn. And dad likes conventional plough better.
