Am I daft to consider a 6 furrow mounted plough (Kuhn varimaster auto reset) are they to big for carrying on the arms ? I would have a semi mounted but awkward shaped fields put me off ! Any advice would be good !

I’m sure you will be fine.plenty for f people carry 7 on the linkage.i hope you got a good tractor.the Kuhn is heavy without the varimaster part and auto reset.

Crichel estate in Dorset used to have some mounted 7 furrow Dowdeswells on a brace of TW 25’s back in the day, you would think these modern things would cope better.

We have a 7f mounted KV on an JD 8360R and have had no problems with the tractor or plough . Does look a huge lump hung on the back though .

I have a mounted 6 furrow. Kv LD85 so nothing fancy no auto reset or vari width. Run it on either a Fendt 724 or a JD 6250r. Need plenty of weight to balance it especially on our steep banks. Works very well and I wouldn’t go back to a 5. The plough started here as a 5 new and we bolted the 6th furrow on, I know it sounds odd but I have always felt it ploughs better as a 6 furrow.

We’ve got a 6F Kuhn, variwidth, trip leg on slats- new last year - very nice plough - run on 720 Fendt with a lot of weight up front and can be a bit tricky turning on steep headlands - could do with another 300-400kg. I would have been happier with a 5F but the output on the flat is good.

All depends on the size of your tractor.

We have 2 Kuhn 153 varimaster auto reset 6 furrow ploughs , use them behind t7 230 , t7 315 , jd 215 , the 230 is a bit light but pulls ok , had a 260 last year which was a good match, good ploughs but keep the turnover bearings adjusted.
Just had a varimaster L on land/ in furrow on demo , it has a stronger headstock , bigger turnover bearings but I wouldn’t really want anything smaller than a nh315 .

Depends on yor tractor. Friend has 7 furrow Kuhn varimaster and said it is a bit uncomfortable to run it with Fendt 936 due to the weight.

I swapped a 6f kv eg85 mounted for a 7f pg100 semi mounted for the reasons listed above. It can’t be good for the tractor or the land under the tyres during headland turning
