Is that because it's needed though or because they can ?

Mzuri themselves did a demo next door to us with some spring beans, their 220hp tractor was on it's knees on a 3m, and that was not working to a huge depth either. I think for something like a protil I would want 100hp/m to be comfortable on my soils. however after a few years and hopefully improved soil structure i think 80hp/m should be fine.

Why does it need so much power, is it doing more of a subsoiling job and lifting more soil? Surely this type of work should be done separately and when necessary. Once the soil is in satisfactory condition, if strip tilling then front tine without wings a la Claydon is sufficient?

I do agree, I personally think that the mzuri ziptil is a better product, maybe with something like rehab/flatlift going through the field very 3-4 years sowing OSR.

Definately does more then a claydon or dts, it lifts all soil in the planted band, not just cutting a slot in the middle. Pretty sure it won't always be needed, but fairly sure on certain land it will be beneficial in the first few years.

Depends on the depth with a protil 60-70hp per m is adequate for most soils, especially if you can get a spade out and have a dig so you don't just sink it down to its knees. But on heavy clays with the wider front wings 80hp per m is probably more suitable for the 10kph target speed.

Alternatively you can bring the hp requirement down to that of a claydon by cutting the wings off the front tines. Of course then when going a bit deeper you will tend to smear a slot and shear the soil rather than lift and cause the soil to fail through tension.

Hello folks,
We are really looking forward to Cereals and the official launch of the Pro-Til 6T. We have been very busy with testing and we have been very happy with what we've found. Not taking as much power as we thought it would. We are thinking from 320hp up to Lord knows what!! Entirely depends on your soil type and, more importantly, condition. Production machines will go to 17 legs unlike the prototype which has 19. This will give us a 352mm leg spacing which will make it even easier to pull, but more importantly, also give us more flexibility when it comes to maize drilling, which a lot of our 3t and 4t machines are being used for now. Orders for this machine have been coming in nicely already and we will be running a demo unit this summer. As far as HP requirement goes we think most of these drills will be going on tractors with far more HP than is required. We have therefore built it to meet this expectation. As you would expect with Mzuri we haven't scrimped on the engineering.
Please come and have a look at the prototype at Cereals. It has created a hell of a lot of interest. We will be doing one bout on the hour every hour so we can keep the sand pit making to a minimum! Also on the demo plot will be a Rezult rake c/w our front discs, which has been extremely well received since it's launch, and also the Rehab complete with Seeder. Your perfect soil structuring tool now with the ability to establish OSR and cover crops, with precision, into moisture.
