Hi All,

Trying to get to the bottom of a couple problems with my MF 6180. Clutch is either all or nothing, steering goes hard every now and again and 3pt linkage wont raise if spool is open......

I have replaced all the filters and the accumulator
any ideas?

Priority pack/ valve?
Just a guess by the way, other more educated folks will be here to advise (y)

3pt linkage wont work is spool is operating, try a pressure test but i would be thinking pump, if the brakes arent making a steel to steel noise.

For the steering there is a priority valve behind the right hand rear wheel.

Are they a wet clutch on those? Can the gearbox be recalibrated? Are there switches on the pedal?

@wdah/him i was thinking pump aswell, brakes are fine no nasty noises. The only thing i have noticed is the brake pedal pulses when you press hard on it.

@ffukedfarmer Im not sure, i would imagine it would be a wet clutch and i am guessing gearbox recal would need to go to dealer?? It has a switch on the clutch to stop you starting it with out putting you foot on the clutch...

Not an expert but i think there's a pre damper thing on the clutch, not shure of the proper name that wears out or breaks long before the clutch is worn out. I also think they were a bit harsh from new. The lift wont work if you pull a spool valve on on an open centre tractor.

Could be a few things , damper on the cluch , internal clutch spring gone lazy , stering going hard could just be on hills ? Was like it on our one you had to slightly over fill with oil.

We have the rear oil well above the dipstick on ours - going down a steep hill the steering would starve of oil and go solid - great when doing 40km ! Just put a new accumulator on ours which has helped the jerkiness a little but the gearlever is hard to engage unless rolling ?! re-calibrate would that help ? Sorry to sneak in a question here :)

@Db1212 Well its still working, but makes hill starts and pulling away with heavy loads impossible. Also noticed yesterday that after a day of working, you can take your foot off the clutch and it can take 10-20 seconds for the tractor to start moving.

I've had that before with the clutch right pia, ended up changing the accumulater under the cab and it sorted it,best try that first it's fairly cheap

we had them issues with our 6180 before we fitted a new pump, no one could pin point it so drove it to a very good massey dealer and when i got there he still couldnt understand so i said for him to drive it and see as at the end of his road i had to wait for the delay after taking my foot off the clutch. he went out and started the tractor and the low pressure light came on so he started witht the pump.

previous to this there was no light or anyother warning just a the symptons you describe

Just to re awaken this thread, as i still havent got to the bottom of this issue mainly due to the fact that its summer and i need tractor every day.
But i have also had a problem with the 4wd not disengaging, now after reading a few different threads on hear i am thinking its a problem with the solenoid. Now i have got major lot of hay out the way i can have a look. But today i noticed that i have no digital speed read out while the 4wd is engaged but then when it decides it wants to disengage usually 5 mins down the road i then get digital speedo back. Are the two things linked??

that would be pointing towards a loom issue to me, but i fitted a quite a few looms as i had a slight engine bay fire and now replace any looms giving grief. plus at the minute we are now putting a bearing in the front diff. great tractors to learn a mechanic trade
