Bullet proof tractor, just check the top cross shaft, pick up hitch & every thing else , gearbox is smooth, clutch not sharp.check the fuel pump it tight on it were it bolts to the timing case

Can't tell anything looking at it, but beware of Bosch vp44 fuel pump if fitted. Caused no end of bother on my t2. Cab suspension seems to be another weak point. Mine didn't have any.
Always fascinated me that the same pump (not literally but same family) is fitted to jds but no one ever winges about them failing when it’s a green tractor

anyway worth looking out for I hear they go around 6k ish hours if it’s silver not black like engine it will have been replaced.

I had vp44 fail at 2000 hours on a 55 reg 6465. Exhausts love to crack up as well. Hydraulic pump failed also very early on
( standard pump).

I had a pump fail on 6499 last year at under 3000 hours. Tractor just stopped in middle of village. Luckily i managed to get her pulled in outa the way on time. £1458 it cost. It was the electric part failed. Hopefully the new bit will last longer

VP44 went on our 6460 before 3000 hours i guess.
VP44 went on the car at about 150,000 miles.

Both times i got them repaired for about £500, though i dont think it was the electronics whihc failed, as I never needed to reporgram the vehicle to accept them.

It turned out it was electronics on mine. They kept replacing pumps which was short term fix. Turned out it was part of ECU. Once it was replaced it was fine.

Great tractor. Had ours from new. Cab suspension failure is common, can be changed. Check all the external switches on the mudguards - they get corroded but are easy to change for new. Other than that, we’ve changed the water pump and lift pump. Go for one with simple aircon rather than climate control. Happy hunting.

It is a control valve inside the pump that is usually the problem. Yes, it is mechanical not an electrical problem although it does throw fault codes.

Both the electronics module and mechanical part of the VP44 are prone to failure.

Symptoms are Start & Idle only, No start at all, or a gradual loss of power over a long time.

Have a t2 6480 dynashift model. Been pretty good for me since i got it 5 years ago.

If you are planning road work front axle suspension would be better. I assume it work not to bad on them, mine only has cab suspension. It can be pretty rough on the road and you actually need to run it flat out at 43k for it to be smooth other wise it starts hopping.

Other than that its a good tractor, easy to drive, quiet and controls easy to hand. In my view its the perfect balance between electrics and mechanical tractors of old.

Does like diesel, especially on the road
