I've been having trouble with the charge light coming on if I use all the work lights. Checked all connections between battery and alternator and couldn't find anything. Then I found this on the wire to the cab.

Not a clear picture but thats what we fitted. Had trouble starting so when the battery's needed replacing i went on varta website and found the highest output that would fit. Didn't improve starting much till the starter motor packed in a bit later .now it starts perfectly with the new starter

Thank you. Looks a much better choice of battery than 096R.

Frustratingly, in order to get them to fit I think I'd need to either fit them with the terminals facing backwards, or alter the battery leads so they fitted the other way around.

Looks like you're getting on well with your cables - hope it fixes the issue. I have the same trouble, but find that it only happens when the revs are in a certain place (think it's over 1500).

It's fine till you rev it over about the same.was out ploughing last week and I had to switch some of the work lights off. Found the problem with a infered thermometer. Run it for a few minutes with everything electrical switched on and engine reving .then follow the wires with the thermometer and it shows bad connections as hot spots

Nice crimping tool who makes that?
its a partex. i rang round all the local tool suppliers and no one had anything in stock .so i rang a electrical wholesaler and they had this in stock. worked a treat and i can see it getting a fair bit of use. just need to buy a selection pack of terminals

Brilliant idea, which thermometer do you use.

Just been doing this the last few days/week on our Masseys based on the post by rob h above. Found two positive cables that were running at 150deg.C. It seems to be the crimp on the end of the cable is not good enough and causing the cable to burn out. Could easily have caused a fire without too much issue I'd have thought.

Appears to be a common issue across these tractors given the posts in this thread.

One surprising thing is that the cables are 25mm2 which is supposedly rated at 175amps, however there are two fuses fitted (one off each battery) - one rated at 150amp (nearest engine) and the other rated at 225amp (furthest battery from engine). Strikes me the cable would burn out before the fuse went.

Have one more cable still to replace that's getting hot, and will then know whether the charging light is still an issue or not.

From what I've worked out the light turns off as soon as the voltage gets above 13.0v, which coincides with about 1400revs or above when all lights, fan, aircon etc are on.

Ours had 150 amp in the wire to the cab and the one along side the engine that comes from the alternator. What wire had 225 amp

Taking your photo from the first post....that fuse and cable come from the + terminal on the battery nearest the bonnet/engine and is 150amp.

The other battery also has a similar cable coming from the + terminal that also has an inline fuse inside the battery compartment. That's the one that on one of ours (haven't checked the other yet) is 225amp.

The one that caused the problem on ours was the one in the battery tray it goes to the cab at the back right hand side .if it’s the same on yours I would check that it’s the correct fuse. It shouldn’t have a rating higher than the rating of the wire it protects

Thanks. Both fuses are in the battery compartment. Each within 30cm of the + battery terminal.
