6630 Engine oil

Normal services should be 250hrs on tractors and 5000 miles on vehicles. Or yearly which ever is sooner. Been doing it for yrs, as my father did, never rebuilt a engine yet !!!!. So won't be changing from that system. Oil and grease are a cheap machanic
And never needed to add oil to a engine between services.

I tend to agree- its a hotly debated subject though:eek:- I was told once by a mechanic I trusted that if an engine starts to use a bit of oil 200-300 hours after its last service, its probably a good idea to change it.?
The policy at my first job here was to run JD oils and filters, serviced by the dealer but at 375 hour intervals.
In America (a long time ago) we were on 250 hour changes with engine oil and fuel filters as well as air filters as we were in very hot dusty conditions and the boss was always concerned about dusting an engine.
The local mechanic always used to say, 'do you want to change oil or have me rebuild the engine'?
This was all for stuff that was staying long after the warranty ran out though, perhaps not applicable if you're chopping stuff in every 3000 hours.

Iv my 30 series set at 400 hours for service intervals on the command centre, i find that's when they tend to start burning a bit of oil, always use genuine filters, used use castrol oil but using all john deere plus 50 now. What hours do lads do the backend oil and filters at?

Backend oil is 1000h for autopower, 1500 for powerquad.

All this talk of changing oil after X number of hours or miles is misleading IMHO.

Oil, of any brand or type, will do its job perfectly well until it goes out of spec. When exactly that happens will depend on the quality of the oil, but also the usage profile.

An engine that runs at a constant speed for long periods will be much kinder on its lubricants than one which is subject to lots of cold starting or expected to deliver sudden increases in power.

How many people have an oil analysis performed at regular instervals, as opposed to blindly following a fixed servicing schedule?

Not to well up on the price on NH parts, if it’s including vat it’s probably not far off the mark for a major service.

I’m guessing they replaced all the air filters including the cab ones. It can soon add up!
I usually use a bit of judgment on the cab air filters, some will be like new if they don’t do a lot of dusty work. They can be big money on some models to!

Checked invoice, so that was including vat. £506 for filters, but that included cab filters and inner/outer air filters. £28 for consumables. :scratchhead:

Deutz seems even more expensive for filters. Got a 1k hour service pack for m620, no air/cab filters £480.

Did they dispose of the oil and filters? That could be part of the consumables alongside rags, grease etc.

Doesn’t sound far out for genuine parts, still a little on the dear side though.

I’ve just picked up everything to do a full service on a 6420 (jd parts and oil) and it was £800 (plus vat) but that’s including all the oils and a set of brake discs (£120 each I think) so £560 for oil and every filter.

We disposed of waste oil, separate charge for filters. Grease separate too

We have a Peugeot 307 petrol and it's amazing re engine oil .it has 160k on it and oil changed at regular 30k kilometers.the oil never gets dirty looking just a little brown.
All other vehicles here oil is black the next week after a change.
