Normal services should be 250hrs on tractors and 5000 miles on vehicles. Or yearly which ever is sooner. Been doing it for yrs, as my father did, never rebuilt a engine yet !!!!. So won't be changing from that system. Oil and grease are a cheap machanic
And never needed to add oil to a engine between services.
I tend to agree- its a hotly debated subject though- I was told once by a mechanic I trusted that if an engine starts to use a bit of oil 200-300 hours after its last service, its probably a good idea to change it.?
The policy at my first job here was to run JD oils and filters, serviced by the dealer but at 375 hour intervals.
In America (a long time ago) we were on 250 hour changes with engine oil and fuel filters as well as air filters as we were in very hot dusty conditions and the boss was always concerned about dusting an engine.
The local mechanic always used to say, 'do you want to change oil or have me rebuild the engine'?
This was all for stuff that was staying long after the warranty ran out though, perhaps not applicable if you're chopping stuff in every 3000 hours.
