Hello everyone. I am facing an issue with my John Deere 6920S. It's a 2006 model and sometimes gives a message "639 2 bif, Instrument unit not receiving any data, see dealer". When this happens the tractor drops rpm and doesn't accelerate. The problem doesn't appear so often. You have to switch off the engine and start it again. Does anyone has experience with this problem?

Now Then..
Is that a code which pops up when the tractor is in use, or have you looked into the BIF codes and it's the only code there??
Personally, I usually look at all the codes in all the controllers, note them all, then delete. Drive the tractor and see what comes back...

It's a code that pops up when the tractor is in use. When this code appears, tractor drops engine rpm and you have to switch off the engine, waiting 2 minutes amd then start the engine again. After this, everything works fine amd tractor is revving again until the code pops up again.

The CAN terminators in a 2 series didn't fail as I recall, I don't think I've ever replaced one.
Have you checked the CAN high and CAN low voltages at the diagnostic socket??
Check the wiring behind the rear right hand cab pillar before you get into any complex diagnostic procedure..

Thank you. No, I didn't check the voltages. JD dealer said me that is a common problem and I have to change the two terminators (behind the right speaker and at the bottom of the cab controls). I removed the upholstery behind the rear hand, I checked the wiring, but I can't see so much. Maybe the wiring is the problem? Or the bif?

30 series were problematic, I've never needed to change any on a 20 series, they are a different design.
However, at £203.00 the pair, it could be cheaper than having the dealer out,,,, 🤔

No, I have a 10 series. But now I think that if the tractor stays 10-15 days, then the first day of work exists the problem. The next days of work, nothing. I turn off the engine for a minute and then everything works fine.

Good Evening.
Back to the problem, now the code comes on more often and if I leave it without turning off and restarting the engine, after two minutes the fuel indicator on the left side of the cluster comes on without showing any code. Note here that there is a small fuel leak in the fuel filter. Could this have anything to do with the 639 2 bif code that appears first?

I have a 6920. Kept clicking the reverser into neutral and limited power. Noted that the left indicator and engine heat light didn’t work along with some others. As I was away from a manual I started investigating and found the wires had rubbed through behind the hitch release lever in the corner of the cab. It was sparking a little which is how I found it. Pushed a piece of plastic down in there to protect it so I could get home.

Did your tractor show the same code as mine before? 639 2 bif?

Μany times the indicator continues to come on even though i have turned off the indicator on the road

I didn’t check for codes. Had an idea what the problem was from posts here and was lucky I saw/heard the spark.
