6m combination drill power requirement

What is everybody’s views on this please? We’ve seen 200-250hp tractors handling 6m folding power harrows easily yet the general consensus is they can’t manage a front seed tank and coulter bar as well as the power Harrow? We can’t see why not but the trade we’ve spoken to say most people are 300-350hp for 6m combination drills.

We run our 6m combine on a JD 7310r and wouldn’t want anything much smaller on it .

More dependent on soil type and flat or hilly land really

Flat light land I can't see a problem

Hills and heavy clay I'd want 300+

Forward speed as well I can drag 200hp to it's knees on our hills with 3m on it rear hopper but 3m press with paddles on the front usua going 8-10 k can be faster if conditions allow

Think the biggest issue is finding something to handle the weight on the back end when front hopper is empty. Have just started using a 6m Kuhn combination in the last couple of weeks on a magnum 340. 250-300hp would have been ample for the majority of fields but on the road with only a few bags of osr in the front hopper would have been interesting on a shorter framed tractor

Things must Have changed a bit, neighbors used to run a 6m accord / mashio combo with front tank on a John Deere 7800 back in the late 90’s

Was that a folding Harrow or rigid?
Twin gearboxes on a folding take more power to drive, a rigid with one gearbox would take less to drive it, just wondering as a fair few 6m narrows in the 90’s were none folding weren’t they.

This was folding, it was bit of a set up, the front wheels where water ballast to hold the front down when the hopper was empty, just thinking that the 78 was “P” reg so would have been around 97-98

Was quite a set up at the time, I’ve been using a fendt 724 on a Kuhn 6m folding and that Been quite a handful with out the drill colters hanging on the back !!

Yes but as mentioned the world has changed somehow now they would tell you need that 170hp for a 3m!
Powerharrow use to have light crumbled rollers on the back or a flexcoil, and would have gearboxes for up to 120hp. The Coulter’s would be light Suffolk type. Now there are heavy packers/dd rings/ rubber wedges on the back, gearboxes for 400hp, heavy duty disc Coulter’s with harrow on the back( with a big stagger to help trashflow so it all further back. Front/ rear clod boards. Wheel track irradicators. All take more lifting and pulling. The gearbox’s/tines are generally running a lot faster than years ago so take a lot more driving. Forward speeds are also a lot faster than they use to be.

I can't but help notice there seems to be some drill coulters missing in that photo, they dont go to the end of the packer? Or is it me missing something? Good looking rig by the way.
I’m guessing the powerharrow folds in two sections and the Coulter’s fold in 3. So when it’s folded the powerharrow is higher than the Coulter’s
