710/60/ x 42 v 650/75 x 38… which is best !

I am looking at several second hand tractors all same model/ hp. Some have 710/60 x 42 & 600/60 x 30 & one has 650/75 x 38 & 600/65 x 28 tyres. Which would be the better tyre traction-wise for ploughing, sub-soiling, X-pressing etc. ?
We have a slightly smaller tractor on the 650/75 x 38 & 600/65 x 28 which grip well, we also have a larger tractor on 650/65 x 42 & 540/65 x 30 which is useless.

We swapped from a tractor on 710/60x42 / 600 60 x 30 to 650 75 x 38 / 600 65 x 28 both same hp and the 650’s are far better for grip.

38 inch rims will be best. Never worth bothering with a 42 unless it’s a 710/70/42 and up, they also look terrible having a smaller sidewall.

38 inch rims will be best. Never worth bothering with a 42 unless it’s a 710/70/42 and up, they also look terrible having a smaller sidewall.

Look terrible? When I was in buying this the salesman wondered if I wanted 650/75/38 rears as a free swap as he had someone wanting the 42” rears for his but I think it looks bang on. Didn’t like the look with 38’s and huge tyres personally.

Not exactly correct. We have 42's yes - but in a 65 profile & 650 width "Multibib" the tyres I was asking about are a 60 profile & 710 width- Xoebid" vf & Trelleborg TM1060 vf which I have no experience of. The only similarities are they are black, round & Miltibib & Xeobib made by Michelin

650/85/38 and 600/70/28 are great tyres for grip

Would these fit on the same rims as the 650/75 x 38 & 600/65 x 28 - assuming they would fit under the mud guards ?

We had a MF6495 with 650/75r38 and still have a set of 710/60r42 Xeobibs for top work and early spraying/topdressing. The 650 is a better tyre for ploughing and grip, Xeobibs far better for secondary cultivation and they can be run very low for rolling and other light work. Never ploughed with them but don't think they'd be that tidy. The Xeobibs also don't have a high load rating though Michelin have Axiobibs in the same size that can be run higher pressure for heavier mounted equipment.
