Thanks, considerably cheaper than changing them!

my only wish is i found this out when i rebuilt the drill not 3 or four years later, when the pins are worn it shoves the coulter into the side wall increasing wear and compaction on the sidewall. it took me 15 or 20 minutes to do and cured the problem. i just marked the pin and leg at the same spot with a permanent marker, loosened bolt and turned with a stylson

I'm finding this very problem out myself. I'm turning them first thing. Thanks

Another questions please. The firming wheels fitted are the 1" wide ones and I have found that they rip up the side wall out of the slot to the point I have removed them for the time being. Seed placement still seems good. Needham will sell the 0.5" ones but at $250 for delivery that's a fair portion of the total price. Does anyone in the UK sell these replacement wheels or is there something within my set up that's causing it?

I need to replace the large uppermost pin and bush set on the legs, the point where it connects the leg to the two piece bracket holders and has a pinch bolt to secure the pin. Have considered buying some bar, cutting to size and getting a machine shop to put in the recess for the bolt to go through. JD want £34 for the pin.

I had some made by a local machine shop - paid under £10 each IRC

I replaced the worn wheels on my old drill with Needham v8's - well worth the cost IMO and less than genuine JD ones

would not be so worthwhile on the newer drills though as they already have a narrow wheel

i ordered other stuff from him at the same time which diluted the shipping a bit

Would they run off another batch and I assume you've been happy with them, material spec and wear. Would rather pay some postage and get something I know will work than go to an unknown.

I've spent the budget I set aside for it so looking to still improve it but within reason.

I have the needham wheels and whilst postage is a killer they are very good.

I'm going to speak with a local machine shop tomorrow but for them to produce them with a radius on the contact point and recessed portion for a bearing, plus bearing and mounting bolts will cost nearly as much as importing them.

Just being cheap!

I can ask if you like - would need to give them a fresh one as pattern as I doubt they kept plans

Any local machine shop should do them cheap - not very complex part but make sure steel bar is correct spec hardness etc

I fitted the later type genuine JD ones to a 3m for about £500 if I remember correctly, much better than the old wider ones.

I'm going to have a conversation with a local shop and see what they quote, I like the idea of the weight with the steel wheels but will await the final quote...,.then order the Needham ones.

I believe the newer JD ones are .75" whilst the Needham ones are 0.5". The old ones I have fitted are too wide to be of any real use.

For clarity it was front pins / bushes I had made

V8 firm wheels were Needham - they are all moulded rubber with bearing bonded into them
