I believe the newer JD ones are .75" whilst the Needham ones are 0.5". The old ones I have fitted are too wide to be of any real use.

Needham are better than new JD but not so much better to be worth the change

The improvement over the older wider JD wheels is however worthwhile

From what Matt has said vs my Needham quote there is an extra £130 needed to go down the Needham route vs JD.

I needed to change mine in a hurry as a few of the older ones weren't brilliant, so went for the JD ones because it was easier. Get on well with them, slightly narrower would be good, but not worth changing again as Clive has said, likewise I won't change them on my new one

We tried a few Needham ones on our drill, couldn't tell the difference between them and the new JD firmers. It turned out to be handy having them in stock as we've replaced two or three this season because the rubber has split open on the leading edge of (one or two of) the wheels in work. Very sharp flints in the ground here, they cut up the depth wheel too, we replace the rubbers on those fairly frequently as once they stop being flush with the disc then you let mud in behind.

The new firming wheels have arrived and are 1" in width, was expecting 0.75". JD seem to think these are the newest and only ones available. Has anyone ordered the ones with the reduced width and can you give me a part number to take to JD.

The part no for the complete press wheel is AN282296. If you have AN281359 they are the old ones. The bearing is the same on both but the rims and tyres are different, you can't just put new tyres on the old type rims unfortunately.

Thank you Simon, I'll ask them to order the right ones in the morning. Would have been too easy simply changing the tyre!

Fair play where it's due. Smarts's in Dorchester have been excellent in the re-building of my drill, they have helped out where i have specified a number with resulting old firming wheels pitching up. In ordering other parts they have been keen to ensure the parts arrive in good time, very helpful.

Need to replace the sleeves (copper bush) the holds the closing wheel arm onto the connection point. Does anyone know the new dimensions please.

I know its not genuine parts as such, but is their any one with a hopper extension on a 750a 6 m to extend to 2 tons capacity, that know a good firm/fitter that has fitted one or knows of someone who would be willing make and fit one.

Regards Big Al
