7530 engine rebuild and improvements :-)

So thought I may aswel make a thread for those interested,

After nearly 8000 hrs of hard graft my 75 gave up, carnt knock her at all its the first time she's really let me down, and I'm not having a R series don't like them:eek:, I thought a injector had gone donkey so I was trying to limp to rea valley but didn't make it:

On route to surgery-

Let the fun begin-

Doing all the work myself lucky it's a quiter time of year,

It soon became apparent the prob was on num1 valve probs, but also number 5 had delaminated the piston( been like it a long time by the looks)

Painful-

All stripped down now all liners pulled out awaiting the rebuild kit, currently looks like around 3.5k in parts,

So as I'm a bit of a diesel head I'm going to try n improve her abit... First things first some gauges to keep a eye on what's going on,
Will have oil temp, oil pressure, water, boost, and maybe intime egt temp

Sorting the oil temp gauge sender into the sump:

Going to try n go from 250 to 300hp but first job is to improve cooling starting by the charge temps, dunno if I'm going to intercool or put a pre rad on the chargecooler yet, pipe work routing is the issue with intercooling,

I know I must be mad but in the words of guy Martin different things make differnt people tick

Will update as and when should be running by this time next week parts arriving on tuesday(y)

Bit of inspiration :

yes spent a lot of its early life with a tuneit box till the error codes drove me mental and more recently remapped & egr sorted, not blameing chip or remap for this failure just bad luck, I'l ditch the vnt with a wastgated turbo if it could be done one day...

If only I could have had a new one with panorama doors, parked mine up to keep the hrs low.:)

Haha I wish I had a side window love listening to it, straight thru:whistle: what hours are on yours? Like u say I wish they still made them! Was trying to get to 10k hrs on the original head gasket so that's gone down the pan!!

Many a time I get on it and its got the side window open.

Think its on 1990hrs :)

Was revving at 2090 when it happend on a flat road as soon as I heard it miss I looked at the revs, will obliviously double check valve timing before I chuck it back together ;)

It was missing above 1900 revs so I thought injector, I was limping at about 1500rpm when She stopped :-(

Wonder did it brake the stem off both the valves or did one drop in whole, as if the coppers holding one of the valves in, failed?
Probably never know, funny the exhaust valves were left in one piece.
Do they drop valves as a rule I wonder

i don't think dropped valves are unheard of, im guessing one dropped in/snapped then came up and took the other out, the exhaust valves have had a bashing aswell but u carnt see that very well in the pic,
