Were the L base bodies realeased with the 793 frame????

There is definitely a bone of contention with L base, I think the reasoning behind it is as you say above, they were probably released with the 793 and were not available on the original Ferguson Sherman brothers derived frame.

I have heard Ferguson ploughmen refer to them as YL base as it was Ferguson's answer to the Ransomes YL, anybody care to expand on this, is it correct? certainly the L base has a look of YL about it

Some older guys hereabouts always refer to the L Base as having been brought out to compete with the YL. One very significant point so far only disclosed in the number 793 is that the L Base were in fact Massey Ferguson and at the earliest could only be post 1958. This definitely excludes them from the Ferguson class as it is at this moment in time.

There was contention a couple of years ago when Geoff Midgeley won the national with Lea bodies - according to date qualification, legal at the time. Sadly Geoff is no longer with us.

In all fairness there must be a few from FOFH who post on here who could settle this debate for all time. Whilst many of their members might well know which bodies are allowed by date, it would be better qualified by specific model. There are, I do believe, other bodies from tother' side o't pond which would mor'n likely qualify by date!

I have a 793 with L bodies on it, and yes they are similar board to a YL, yet the point is very like a fergie, nothing like a YL
when I bought it, and asked 1 or 2 about it, was told they came out with the MF 65, and were well matched,
i know nothing more than that, it was a 3 furrow, but now a 2

Yes!! And most ploughs you tend to find for sale have either GP or digger bodies anyway, dont think I have ever seen a Fergie plough for sale with Lea bodies (Westlakes do sell them however)
The chap next to me at the Chipping Norton match recently was using Lea bodies but we were both at the wrong end of the field soil wise and his boards stuck up like mad, mine did too but not as bad, torrid ploughing, brash with a bit of clay content and large stones, some did their opening and then went home. It was a job to turn an honest furrow.
Cotswolds have not changed then!

I think the contention is not with Lea bodies but with the much deeper L Base bodies which were introduced as late as 1969 I believe. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Both lea and l base shares have bolt holes parallel to the landside whilst GP bodies are slightly angled away from the landside.

Post 19 from earlier.
Happy new year all of you on here
