I for one would love for you to keep the thread running @Blaithin, it’s very interesting to compare it with our weather here. Being in the middle of England we don’t get the extremes of weather that the coastal areas get.

There’s enough chat about UK weather on here every day so I don’t need to do a monthly day for you!

I agree. I enjoy the pics, its almost like having a trip abroad without the hassle and expense. Plus it means I can miss out all the cities.:D Without @Blaithin @Kiwi Pete and @FarmerRoy we would be living in our own small bubble and thinking that somehow we matter. My thanks to all of you for broadening our horizons.

@Blaithin Carry on - bet you find it easier to refer to what happened on this thread than by looking at your phone. A great thread. Fascinated by the variation in temperatures - seems to be 30C variation in a month - in April it was bonkers - over 50C. We have no idea of what this might be like, none; 50C in one month, insane.
I have really enjoyed it, thank you.

2018 finished off with the trend of a fairly mild winter. Forecasters keep predicting extreme cold but it's in the vague future called "February" so we'll see.

Right now we're in a trend of Chinooks which is keeping the temperature around, and even above, 0 a lot. The low temperatures for the most part have all been rare nights that dip down. The snow pack has shrunk quite a bit and can even support my post Christmas stuffing my face weight on the crust - if I pick the right path! Venture a little bit farther west or south and the snow is pretty much gone. Brought the cows home yesterday from their stockpiled grazing. Had a good stretch considering I was feeding hay in August and September!

The Front Yard - This is where a lot of the snow the blows across the bald prairie gets stuck. Along the treeline. Which is about the only reason there's still snow out there, otherwise it'd all be grass.

It's not a high precipitation area. Based on this map I could average 450-500 mm but more likely to fall in the 400-450mm range. Also keeping in mind the last couple years have been dry. 2018 has 305.1 mm. 2017 got 201.3 mm. (2017 might be a bit higher than that, the local weather station has gaps of days missing.)

The prior two years were a bit wetter with 2016 getting about 383.4 and 2015 got 381.2.

Yes, that includes snow.

Snow isn't a lot of moisture. It can vary on the type of snow but the average ratio is 1:10. 1 inch of rain is 10 inches of snow. Then add to that the fact that most snow will simply melt and run off into streams and rivers because frost prevents it going into the ground and most snow moisture will never actually get utilized here.
