I actually took these photos last week and just haven't had time to upload them, but the day is very similar today

Some days in July did get pretty warm but for the most part it's been a cooler summer, especially the nights. Was at a rodeo last week and got a good chill because I didn't take a good enough sweater with me and once the sun goes down, the warmth goes away. Some areas north have actually gotten frost already. In a year when the crops are a couple weeks behind normal anyway, an early frost is not something producers want! There were some big hail storms in July as well but luckily my immediate area and around work both seemed to avoid the worst.

The Front Yard - Grass is looking good here after getting to rest for the summer. Can't see bare dirt anymore at least!

The Field Across the Road - The wheat is looking great. All the crops are really. Canola is just finishing blooming and most cereals are really starting to turn now.

The Back Pond - Isn't really a pond anymore. There's no water back there and it doesn't even seem that wet. But there's still frogs there so can't be bone dry. This pasture is also loving the rest period and the grass is doing great (and wildflowers!) Willow and Conn help show off how tall it starts to get down towards the low spot.

Well the snow is back... weather has been pee poor for harvest and not much is off at all. Around me they're lucky to have most of their barley off, very few have even managed to bin some wheat or canola. Right now the provincial average is 20% done. We're all waiting for a break in the weather to warm up and dry us out like last October. Hopefully two years in a row of snowed out harvest can mean two years in a row of a hot October! ?

So these photos are actually from November. I've just been sitting on them and kept forgetting to post :barefoot: October wasn't a great month for harvest. Just too damp, not enough heat to dry things out, when it did warm up it wasn't for long enough.

The Front Yard - Cows were here on their rotation around to trample stuff down and before their final jump to their winter diet.

Looking folward to the November one, hows the harvest going?
I finally got around to this! Harvest is still going..... Whenever there's a break in the weather there's usually some combines going in the area.

If I'm remembering right estimates are putting at harvest on the prairies at still around 10% to do but there are areas with more left out. Went to town a different way a week or so ago and there's about a ten mile stretch south of me where it looks like almost 50% is still out in the field - both swathed and standing - cereals and canola.

Holy smokes, it's December already. Had a few cold blasts come through this year with another on the way. Decent snow fall and the ever common Chinooks. Harvest chugs on for those unfortunate enough to still have crop out. Sounds like there's some County's and Insurance companies offering an advance pay out to farmers since generally you don't get insurance payouts until you harvest the crop which would mean spring for a lot of them now. The advance will help them make payments they have due now based on the fact they usually have grain in the bins they can market this time of year. Other than being tough most grain held its quality all right. Same probably isn't going to apply to what's still out, although there has been some drop in canola green counts from when fields were started in Sept/Oct and some getting combined now.

On the plus side, forage is in ample supply in most areas because of the rain (the areas that could get their forage off anyway) So I'm not paying $100+ for bales this year!

Well here's the end of the year. Finished on a bit of a warm stretch, nothing too chilly. Although it hasn't really got too cold yet this winter so even -10 is cold! Even had freezing rain warnings yesterday. Yay...
