A farming hero Stan White

I've known about him for years, but knew little of what he was actually like. Great story of an ordinary Man who has done really well. Bit like Cyril Thornber & Joe Dickinson. Lots of great business's foundered at the time, still happening today but few from such humble beginings. Bunching beetroot for Sheffield market really affected me, because I used to do the same, just 40 years too late.

Not sure if he is still alive but the equipment from his farm is been sold online by Cheffins tomorrow. Times change & families see a different future.

Met him a few times
Stan was a real character and a proper no-nonsense gentleman

There was a lot of sucessful business's foundered in that post war boom. Those who could see the future Strawson's & Hunterpac & so many sucessful arable & livestock farms, Eastwoods Turkeys & Bernard Matthews.

What must Ken Morrison have felt like when he looked back at his life. I knew a veg wholesaler who once worked at Hull wholesale market & he knew Ken Morrison in the 1950's. Sir Ken used to drive a wagon from Bradford to arrive at Hull for 4am to select the best imported fruit.

Amazing achievement from a new paper round when he was a boy.

That old saying
“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”
