They haven't factored in the CO2 sequestered into grassland. I know that Mike Berners-Lee has looked more carefully into carbon footprints, but I haven't read that sequestration has been included.

Fascinating stuff but beef is getting a roasting for its carbon footprint mainly for the methane, obviously the carbon cycle hasn’t been taken into account

It’s actually quite interesting, the vegan option starter had by far the highest carbon footprint................although it does seem to be going downhill at the moment

That's not quite the actuality.

They were factoring it in for the starters as asparagus was the worst as it was out of season and had to he flown in.

They factored in food mild which is why the vegan option asparagus starter fared so badly as the asparagus had been flown in

Sara Pascoe chose the vegan option starter of asparagus. It was imported asparagus, hence whopping footprint.

They also said if the beef had come from South America the carbon footprint would have been 3 times as high
ah, this is the programme with the 4 tasters one of them being ambassador for the Vegan society Sara Pascoe.
I asked on another thread if UK ag had one of its ambassadors as one of the other 3 tasters.

Yes, they/she was also pushing the point that 90% of soy is used for animal feed so the vegan contribution to soy demand is relatively low

I actually think she's a good egg in herself - been enjoying the documentary series she made that's been on recently - but she would be more ethical and more true to the principle behind her documentaries if she were more pragmatic about her diet.
And now Hannah Fry is having a go at cheese!
Doing her job for the Vegan Society then. And our ambassador is which one ?

Livestock hasn’t come out very well , down to the methane.
I’m guessing it will be very much an uphill battle to get it accepted that the methane emitted by livestock is part of a carbon cycle unlike the carbon emitted by that aeroplane that flew the asparagus in
