Got a crick in me neck now.
sorry about that! Check out your rotation lock on your screen and turn it sideways? Or view while lying on the sofa? I apologised at the start for taking photos of old photos but never thought to orient them correctly to the camera.

No apologies here, this project was pure plagiarism! I borrowed a bale grab for a winter and set about making two grabs, one full size for going on my 3CX, and one half size for going on my old mans MF 550

I had bought a new chopsaw for this project.

I borrowed the use of a lathe for making the hinges. They were made from 50mm square bar, cut off in a bandsaw and mounted in a four jaw Chuck to drill them. I then cross drilled each and fitted a grease nipple.

This is the centre section of the first grab.

These are the two moving gates.

Top roller was seized solid, and has been for some time by the look of it.

A couple of the bottom rollers were still turning but were rattling slack so they got RxR’d as well.

Now the trailer is in a more accessible position I got a good look at the spring hangers. A bit of welding required here. I’m planning to reinforce all the hangers when I’m at it.

Put a bit of pressure on the axle to pull it back in line but I’m needing to cut the welds on the hanger to get it into the correct position.

3rd drum i went to, the brakes were tight. Hub not uncovered.

Hub off. The pivot pins holding the shoes on were solid. Took a good hammering to get them out.

All stripped down and greased all looks free now, just need to get it back together.

Does the same rig do the line boring? Do you use standard mig wire for building up the bores.
ive been lightly researching the likes of that unit, there are a few brands all of which are the price of a good car to buy.
the welding torch setup is an extra when buying the unit, its rather expensive on top of an already expensive unit but if you have a look on the tube you will see how it works and the finish it gives when welding.
std mig wire will be hard enough to bore out never mind anything else.
i have aspirations of making up a home made line boring unit using my mag drill and a shop made boring bar but alas time is in scarce supply for that project.

You need to do a fair bit of work to make it worth while. It's amazing the things that manufacturers dont make wear parts for.
