What grade of rods are you using? .

Everywhere seems to sell 6013 over here , well locally for me . Bought some 6011 off Amazon, to get deeper penetration and they are like fire breathing dragons compared to the 6013 but leave a more beaded look. It's got me wondering how much use 6013s are for repairs
Esab 6013 is the current box I’m using. I have tried a few brands and find my welds are generally much and such, with whatever brand I use. I haven’t really tried experimenting with different types of rod. I’m afraid I do minimal preparation, screw the amps up high and hope the extra heat will burn through the rust and scale and float the slag to the top. 😂

I removed homemade Murray quickhitch brackets from a set of pallet toes I had for my 3CX and fitted a Euro hitch set to it. Destined to go on an adaptor plate on a 360 digger.

I borrowed a 2x2 bale spike to clear a field of hay that was a bit soft under foot. The frame was a bit ripe so I decided to do a bit of preventative fabrication. Using the theory that it’s easier to beef it up than to repair after the event! I propped it up and disconnected from the tractor to make sure I didn’t fry the electrics.View attachment 901252View attachment 901253View attachment 901254View attachment 901255
Good work and tidy welding! We made a spike that was a copy of that one and put those triangular plates in there from the start. Apparently it's a common failure point.

And made to storage boxes to hook over the top rail. Amazing the difference it makes not bending down to pick stuff out of boxes on the floor, maybe I’m just getting old!

This weeks job is erecting the extension to my Dutch barn. I didn’t use bolts for the bottom of the legs. They sit on concrete pads then get cast in concrete. Therefore I had to hold them in place so I could get the eves beams and the couple in place to hold everything until I pour the concrete around the legs. I thought about using a series of guy ropes but decided to prop them up with bales of hay instead. Should be worthy of a post on the botch thread! Not too many pictures as I was erecting it by myself and more worried about getting the bolts in place before the whole lot came down about my lugs!

That looks a strange work platform
It started life as a very old scissors lift that I got as scrap from my work. It was called it a Flying Carpet but I've no idea who made it I broke it up and added fork lift pockets on the underside of the platform so it could go on pallet toes. I don't think I have pictures of it when it was whole I've robbed a few rams off it for various projects over the years but most of it is still lying around the steading in kit form.

I thoughtnit looks good , even better if bit on side had a ram innit so you could tele in and out
im thinking the chain slides it in ,out
There is a handle to wind on the side of the small basket which drives it out and in on the chain. Handy to have but not something I'd bother trying to make if I was starting from scratch. If I'm on my own and placing the basket and then climbing into it with a ladder it's handy to have the extra reach to save climbing back down to often to move the tractor. Less of an issue if you have somebody to drive the tractor for you.

Have you still got the wheels from the scissor lift

Yes I do. They are solid tires similar to very smal fork lifts I suppose. Back wheels chain driven by a hydraulic motor and front ones steered.

Would they be easy to push on a level surface?
I was thinking of getting the wheels or base of one to use on a welding table and it would weigh about 500kg

I'd say they should be ok. I'll measure the diameter when I next pass it and let you know what size mine are. You could have had them but you are a bit far to come and pick them up!

There’s the remains of the base. 1m x 1.7m. Wheels are 14” in diameter. Now you mention it, it would make a handy sized bench. 😂

This shot shows the two motors driving the wheels through a chain. (If you look closely!!)

Can’t you cut one in half and bring it home in your lunchbox over two days and weld it back together.......
Mate worked in the shipyard & this fella worked with him always took a pint of milk in with him, then someone noticed he always took it home with him again. So one night he got stopped at the gate & turned out to be full of white paint....had been going on years & everything at home was painted white.
