A few workshop jobs.

How come you're replacing them? To keep mud and stuff out? We remove them if they're slightly rotten or bent, makes it easy to inspect shoes and drums, but all our trailers are only running on the road.
Tidy job tho [emoji1419]
Yeh I was wanting to keep the worst of the crap out of them. I was originally going to weld a lip on to sit in the recess slot on the drum but not so sure now. I was thinking the flat plate would keep most of the rubbish out.

id put an inspection notch or hole in each one so as i could see my brake shoes on inspection, and a good wide one too, 20mm say, so you dont have to squint.
good work so far.
Good call, I might do that yet. Will need to look at what I have in the way of plastic
Grommets or plugs and make the inspection hole the appropriate size.

How thick is the plate.
Electricians use 20 / 25mm as common hole size. Plenty of rubber binge available if plate thin enough, or tap it 20mm.

2mm I think, (but never actually measured it, it was an off cut I had lying in the shed) so should get a grommet to fit it. Will speak to a tame sparky to see what he has.

I wouldn't bother with any kind of bung in it, it's going to be more of a pain than anything else, just leave it open, it I'll do no harm.

Maybe just a flap of steel that pivots on a bolt over the hole. Could put a fob of weld on the flap so it doesn’t swing everywhere.
