A new diet regime for a farmer

I recently used the 2 week free trial of the 'Freestyle Libre' continuous glucose monitor to see how I respond to different foods.

These were the most extreme reactions I had in 2 weeks of trying lots of different foods:

A big bowl of porridge with summer fruits and a very ripe banana

2 jam doughnuts at once mid afternoon

Neither took me out of the green "safe zone" but the rapid rise and fall is not good for the body.

Agree about bmi being a bit misleading. I lost just under 30kgs over 14 months (wasn't overly fat either). Mainly just by bike/exercise bike. Started doing weights again 9 months ago. Have put 4kgs back on and haven't changed my diet in that time. It's all muscle not fat that I've put on. This affects my bmi figure, but doesn't reflect the truth. By the way, lost the weight by cutting out softdrink completely, bread , cereals, and junk food. And the biggy, cut right back on alcohol. 1 night a week is my limit now, and only a few... Putting weight back on does irc me. But I'm coming to terms with it being better weight this time and not fat.

I take it the 2 jam doughnuts were for experimental purposes? ;)

BMI doesn’t really tell us anything we can’t see from looking in a mirror in our undercrackers. I suppose it avoids the awkward get stripped moment at the doctors so there's that I suppose.

Absolutely.

10 years ago I would pick up a bag of 5 with a sandwich for lunch, maybe twice a week, and eat the lot before getting home.

I had to force those 2 down, they were disgusting!

I was surprised their effect wasn't bigger tbh. Blood sugar spikes and crashes like that are highly implicated in arterial wall inflammation though....

At least I now know for certain that I'm not diabetic, "pre-diabetic" or even modestly considering diabetic with responses like that. It definitively confirms the tests the NHS did on me in 2020 to rule out diabetes as the cause of the effects my prescribed heart drugs were really responsible for.....

Diet is an individual thing. Don't let anyone tell you that they have the ideal diet for everyone, they are bullsh1tting.

I’m going for a CAC scan and score this summer to see how calcified my arteries are, also going for the snip. I’m looking forward to one of those…

Had that >10 years ago (the one you're NOT looking forward to).

Wasn't as bad as I'd been led to expect.

I'm planning to do a couple of these later this year to definitively see where I stand:

Wow, wonder what they’re gonna tell you in the food consultation? Bet you’re not "investing" in that one.
