A plea to tractor drivers.

We have a rider that rides one horse and walks a second alongside, not content with that, she has 2 dogs walking with her! Of course it's alright because all 5 of them have a fluorescent on .
Like with everything, there are those that are responsible and those that are not
One here drives here truck flat out every where , weaving in and out to try and get by when you are towing a cattle box full of cattle behind you with a hilux , you let her by and no thank you, just rude, but then minutes later she's out on her horse and the hole world revolves around her, but still no thank you.

And cyclists were going back and to to work, not going around dressed in Lycra ,pretending it’s the Tour de France. The road from Shrewsbury to Ellesmere has now been designated a cycle route, so hordes of them are holding up traffic as it’s a windey road at the best of times.

We met a horse in our local village today in our car, could see the horse was a bit fidgety so the mrs stopped approx 30m away and the car switched itself off. The rider approached very carefully as the horse was getting quite aggitated, she just walked by us and didn't even acknowledge us. I was really pee'd off. This is the flipside to it
We had a plonker near here who insisted on riding his dark horse wearing dark clothes at dusk. I stopped one day to politely point out his lack of respect for other road users and had an earful in response.

Next time I saw him I made a point of maintaining good progress. And the next.

He now wears hi vis.

And only one group needs a licence to use the highway. The other two have a right to be there.

(Anyway, most riders will also be drivers. Who pay vehicle excise duty. Not that it's relevant to the discussion at hand, because VED isn't related to roads at all. How much is VED on tractors BTW, I forget?)

You need a licence for everything nowadays . can of worms ,horses and cyclists

Rubbish , all hosses and cyclists SHOULD BE LEGAL , they have no insurance for a start .
I have insurance for all the pushbikes I ride. Including the one I ride to and fro the farm. Not that I need it. It's not a legal requirement. I have an unconditional right to use a bike on the road. Just like I would if I walked to work. Or rode a horse.

Perhaps we could all start posting videos of horse riders behaving badly
on public roads .
I've got one from two days ago adjacent to the highway horse rider
with 3 uncrontrollable dogs and a horse she couldn't control either.

It’s a chicken egg situation. However if the horse is that skittish it’s irresponsible to have it on the public highway. So their own fault and own worst enemy. Times move on and why horses should be limited on time and distance on roads for their own safety. Too many round here, two abreast on narrow roads leaving all vehicles no where to go on a road or blind corner. Then no high viz makes a whole mockery of their upset and discontent. I’m very much on the fence as we can all get along if we all behave and are sensible. But there’s a majority that aren’t on both sides.
