A red meat champion

Seems to me the industry needs to head-hunt a red meat champion:
- High public profile
- Respected, rather than jokey.
- Intelligent enough to take on board and articulate the points made on TFF re climate change and livestock.
- Media savvy.
- Available.
- Affordable.

Suggestions ?

I dont think one individual will either help or do it because the bullying and harassment they would get on social media would finish them.

A campaign with lots of faces from the world of sport and media would be more effective and their are lots, particularly in sport that have farming backgrounds, Alistair Cook, Phil Vickery, Will Addison, Rory Best, John Jeffery etc etc. Then there are people like Helen Skelton and Adam Henson. They just need rounding up and given a decent simple message.

AHDB, that’s what they are supposed to be doing.

You mean the £24 million or so that they spend on staff isn't enough already?

Anyone in business on their own account whether a Ltd company or your local garage, plumber or builder has a budget for marketing their services or products. It would appear that farmers do not do any marketing on their own account and expect the market to come to them. Am I wrong?

In the main we produce bulk commodities for which there is an existing market. Our prices are set by supply and demand. It would be tricky for my marketing budget to increase demand for wheat.

Correct, so the obvious response then is do we need all these people who are supposedly marketing on our behalf?
Red tractor, AHDB, etc or just a accept that returns are low but if costs are low also...
