A2 milk

Forgive me - it's been 12 years since I was a dairy farmer ..............

About that time, Wiseman were just getting into A2 milk and whenever I saw 'AF' (the local RWD rep for A2) thereafter, she said that the project was going well.
Fast forward to this week and a lady we know was commenting that she can no longer buy A2 milk from Sainsburys.
I tried to contact AF, but got a reply "AF no longer works for the company, maybe try ASDA as they are supplied by Arla"

Does anyone know if A2 milk is still available?

Quick Google tells me Muller exited their joint venture with A2 in 2014.
A2 went it's own way with Muller being just the processor.
A2 then decided to discontinue in October of this year citing low product sales. With product removed in November.

I too heard it had been recently withdrawn from the market.
We tested our cows last year and have a few that are A2, we bottle their milk separately if we have someone wanting A2. It is a complete ball ache, and I wish we never started it. We thought we might gain a few customers but in reality we just ended up with existing customers googling it and suddenly deciding they were intolerant to A1!
It also seems that the research done on A1/A2 milk was all done with pasteurised milk, raw A1 can be as good as pasteurised A2.

Same here, Tim. I wish I'd never mentioned the A2 status of our cows. Herself has decided to go A2 with the ice-cream and now I find myself selling A1's, cows and youngsters, to avoid having to separate their milk from the A2's! The difficulty is that some "lactose intolerants" are still intolerant to A2 anyway, so avoid dairy fullstop!

We had one customer who after having 40 litres a week decided they were intolerant to A1 milk, so insisted on having A2. They still buy cream too which will be A1/A2, unsurprisingly they get on fine with that.....

I believe Guernsey milk is nearly all A2. I recall talking to the Lacey's near High Wycombe, I think they had someone from Nottingham coming for it.

I think Guernsey cows are something like 90% A2, but the only way to know is by testing the individual cows. There are some unscrupulous people selling A2 milk without testing but just going on the breed.........

In that case, I should clarify that they were not deliberately selling it as A2, more that people heard about them and assumed that it was automatically A2

Trouble is there is nothing you can claim about A2 with any certainty.

An ad campaign based on things like "some people think" "May be suitable for" "sells well in Australia" was never going to set the tills ringing.

Edited to add: a bit like organic really. And some leading lights at Wiseman said that (organic) would never take off!
