I looked at it for Rye we wholecrop for AD, but autumn sown crops weren’t allowed and there’s no spring drilled hybrid Rye

I think it does imply that you whole crop it( that’s the point ), and not combine and bale .
the rules say so twice . Also limited herbicides .

Which fudging cretin dream't that list up?? Tell me the logic, you can use amidosulfuron but no other SUs? No hormones, no grassweed control apart from avadex which well be the only one on that list that acrtually works these days. Who the heck is going to want to grow wholecrop like that if it involves basically reseeding your field with a whole manner of BLW salad?? These people are dumb.

We are putting some into wholecrop spring oats for AD, hopefully the oats will be quite competitive and any rye grass will be carted off to the digester before it sets seed.

No great problem on land that has had mostly a winter crop rotation for the last 40 years

the issue is
it states that whole crop by Removel of grain and Removel of straw no mention it cannot be done in 2 operations

it also mentions that seeds shed would be of benefit to wildlife
I would say that a forage harvester removes all seeds where as a combine harvester spreads small seeds back on the field there is also mention that later harvest is beneficial to the wild life

my conclusion is that later harvest by combine and baler ( there are combined units available ) would meet the requirements of the option
But this needs to be confirmed by defra before going ahead

if spring crops are what are needed to benefit the environment and return to 1970s wildlife levels then this is the option that could pay for that addition to the combinable rotation
