What have they done to deserve that? BFL does a job, the Texel does a job. Producing a blend/composite/ mongrel is the sheep equivalent of a haybob.

Wouldn't the BFL bit maintain more prolicacy than the straight Texel that's normally used to 'improve' them?:scratchhead::whistle:
A good friend of mine has bought the aberfield and abermax ,about 3years ago. Ask him every year what his thoughts are and he still won't commit to whether he likes them or not:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. I know he was trying to get his ewes more mule type and whilst doing that wanted to finish lambs quicker. I don't think he has achieved great advances in either.

We're crossing aberfields with lleyn to breed replacement ewes instead of mules. Lleyns are not perfect, they like dying and mastitis in particular! ! Also their lambs don't have the same growth rate as a mules lambs do, hard to be happy selling lambs 4kg lighter. Great mothers and prolific though

has anyone used them?
the farm i worked at last year used them and interested to hear people's opinions to produce lambs for meat,

aberfield ewes? any good for retaining ewes to sire for meat lambs?
having spoken to the chap i worked with he suggested using aberfield ewes on a texel x..
i thought about aberfields on a lleyn ewe?

opinions thoughts pics welcomed :D

i have tried to contact 2 people at innovis but neither responded

Thanks :)

Only just started using them but so far so good. Born outside, summer grazed our highest land. We can sell the males in the same pen as texel x mules and you wouldn't know the difference. Last year's ewe lambs mostly gave birth unassisted, mules all needed a hand .only concern so far is how many lambs will they scan, 1 of reasons we're using aberfields on lleyn. ..also managed to retain 50 good ewe lambs from 60 ewes that went to the ram.

Perhaps not. I know the blue faced Leicester is not the favourite breed on here but I would put my neck on the line and say as suppliers to the mule breeders innovis is one of the most and best recorded. Correct me if I'm wrong. P's. I don't work for them:LOL:
Your right, they do a lot of recording, base Texel rams high rated at the time, how ever a couple crashed according to BASCO, But the main terminal sire breeds with across breed BLUP will have breed figures with more meaning ,just a case of numbers, and in the grand scheme of things Inovis rams are a tiny minority, especially when it comes to genetic evaluations
