Just finished lambing my first aberfield x NCC ewehoggs and my second year of lambing my cheviots to the aberfield. Delighted with both. Bought tups with good lambing ease figures and maternal abilities. Living up to their figures. Aberfield ewe hogs have much wider pelvis than my traditional chevmules, so much easier to get lambs out. Can't fault them after 2 years

Sold the first of this years Aberfield x lleyns lambs on Thursday. Born after 10th March they weighed 38.6kg on market scales (which was disappointing ) ...I was nearly tempted to sell some of the heaviest females as well , made £90 compared to £95 for nicest texel x mules, same weight and were started being born 12 days earlier...there might be something in this recording malarkey! ! Good price! We find with any of our breeds that if you have something outgrowing the rest of the field by a long way in a twin field, it's got to be a single so are culled. We don't tag record at birth.

Have you got two colours of spray can?
Yes and their numbered accordingly if a single lamb is the only survivor from a twin baring ewe by the time we ring - 12hrs. But if you lose 1 lamb at a few weeks old then the other grows like stink and noticeably stands out! Had a lamb 14kg heavier than the rest of its field the other day, ewe lamb, currently hanging up in a cold store somewhere now.
