My dad put an abertex across our mules for the first time this year. Been really really impressed with the lambs we've had. Noticeably better conformation and size than the texel lambs we usually get. We only went for a highlander tup at the aber sales last year for my side of the flock, but my old man really liked the look of an abertex and the Abermax, so ended up coming home with tex as well as a highlander. Got outbid on the abermax unfortunatly, all went for a lot of money!!!!! If anything like the results we've had from both tups this year though might well be worth the extra money.

Abermax ram we were after went for over £800, but had good figures. We paid £600 for Abertex. My highlander cost me £750. They vary for what quality you want and what ebv figures they have.

Pleased with ours, kicks out good thick lambs, with a lot of get up and go. And lives on fresh air.

An AberTex is just a Texel, just recorded on an in-house system at Innovis so that you can't compare performance with any others.;)
@gatepost might something about them.

Put Abermax rams over one group of Lleyn ewes this year. Only had about 200 lambs to date but very impressed so far (y)

Yes,and I was reliably informed that some of the the statistics that were reeled out at the sale were out of date and inaccurate.

If you are reading this Innovis,pull your socks up and don't pull the wool over buyers eyes.

Trust in the data is important or it is useless.

We have highlanders and Aberfields currently however we bought Texels from another breeder who did have accurate figures.

I wouldn't know were to start, sand and Arabs comes to mind. But very valid point made @neilo within flock recording, you buy the best out of that flock, always ask how many rear groups declared where management and or farm may be different. But if the sheep are good and do the job for you all well and good, figs in some smallish cohorts regardless of breed are virtually worthless.

I bought an abertex and 3 abermax shearlings last year and put them out to scotch mule and chev mule ewes. Very impressed with the lambs on all fronts. My only concern would be the that the abermax lambs are just a bit bare at birth, like the charollais. Wasn't an issue this year in the scot borders but could be in a normal year.
I am on the whole very impressed with all the "aber " sheep. Went onto them because got sick fed up with over done , over priced tips at the sales, that won't last anytime at all

Correct me if l'm wrong but isn't the abertex just a non inverdale carrying texel, a very clever way to market a by product.

However if a non carrying maternal texel is what is wanted it would do a job, though there are a multitude of breeders supplying these type of tups without the 'Aber' premium
