Abershedder

I would be terrified that if I went down the shedder route, wool would come back into fashion ,and reach equivalent values to medieval times ,and pay the farm rent.
Only half joking when I say this.
Wool is a terrific, renewable product and I wouldn't be surprised if it has a future. Unfortunately, for the foreseeable, it will cost most flockmasters money to produce when all costs are taken into account.

Yes, I understood they screened for disease, rather than go down the accreditation route, which only covers a couple of icebergs anyway.
A good friend bought a tup from a screened flock that had an iceberg
All flocks are screened for other icebergs
All exlana multiplier flocks have to carry out regular screening for icebergs
:facepalm: FFS, there's enough fudgin things sheep can die of and now it looks like we've got to look out for 'em being hit by icebergs :banghead:

I'm guessing it's a global warming thing :scratchhead::scratchhead:

No need to worry on that score.......

...........the genetics are safe here (y). PM me when you need a tup 😉

P.S. had an unplanned mating with a randy Lincoln tup lamb and a shedder a couple of years ago - the resulting triplets were a sight to behold 🤣

Wool will have a future when we start taxing polluting synthetic fibre production
But for farmers to make money from it they will also have to select for quality wool that the market really wants & will pay for

The good news with the wool vs. shedding debate for sheep farmers is that you can go from one option to the other in 2 generations ---it's not a big deal (except in the traditional mindset of course)
