Abnormal presentation

Helped a friend for 2 weeks doing night lambing on 550 Suffolk mules last month. Loads of legs back and backwards from beginning to end.
We started calving heifers last week and those stupid buggers are no better.
Out of first 10, 2 breaches and 3 one leg back.
Any theories?

No - but had our vet here today and they said they've had the busiest season ever for assisted lambings. He's not sure if there are more incorrect presentations, or that because they are worth more, the farmers are calling the vet because they can cover the cost if they save the lambs.

I would guess it's due to big lambs and calves, noticed all our lambs were much bigger this year and same for calves, my theory being less room to move around into the right position, why they're bigger I dont know

When we moved the dairy herd 250 miles, the first 20 something calves were breech. We got them all alive except one, but it was a hairy time. Vet said their 'time clock' had been interrupted. He'd seen the same when hounds went through a flock of sheep. A lot of malpresentations.

Speaking with a vet at one of my farms they said lambing and calving this season had been the busiest for a long long time.

In cows is it not something to do with moving them/changing groups around 3 weeks pre calving as the calf turns around then? I may be making that up but I’m sure someone once told me that, only seen two breeches in 400 ewes here, probably the least I’ve ever seen... 1 assisted calving out of 40 cows. Not using extreme sire breeds in either species though.
