Abortions in sheep

There is an antibiotic for campaylabactor 10 but requires frequent injections so impractical
I can’t stress enough that alamycin la did stop mine for a short time so probably worth it even though not advised
One batch of 350 was aborting av 17 a day

In ring feeders ?
Bales in ring feeders yes. Pit is better analysis from same field I think it’s the chop and it’s tighter packed less air in amongst it. Not recommend for sheep by many but we’ve fed it with success and many others have too. Pain in the arse to get to sheep here there and about though up here. Don’t do pit anymore all bales now.

Why is pit silage not recommended for sheep?

Mould and abortion risk. We’ve fed loads of it to sheep. As @muleman said it’s just a matter of a bit common sense. Don’t use edges top or even bottom and any with secondary fermentation. That’s where cows come in handy
We are feeding it to ewes this year for the first time and yes only giving them the best, the cows, heifers and bulls get the rest. Hardly any mould on the pit this year though, best we've made, changing contractors might have helped I think.

Don’t let me put you off. We’ve fed loads of it no problem. Better results than baled stuff actually.

Makes sense.

The dog I had when we were lambing used to chew afterbirth like bubblegum!

It used to be a three way race when the suckler cows were calving, me to try to put the afterbirth on the bin and a fight to the death between the cow and the dog! 😂
It must be the tastiest thing in the world to dogs!
"Where's the dogs", "There in the shed digging through the straw to find week old afterbirth"

In the middle of a storm here. Had 17 abort out of 630 early lambers so far. Plus a possible other. All within 1-3 weeks of due date. They look normal, don’t smell and some just alive. No cat problem. Closed flock. Had around 8-12 slip last year and didn’t act on it then and it stopped. This year it has definitely multiplied within the flock.
had ewes slip in the house, out on rape, dairy grass keep and our own grass from each mob. Singles getting no sup feed either.
Got 52 bottles of alamycin off the vet today after finding 2 singles, 3 doubles and a treble with dead lambs this am. Jabbed almost all the ewes today just 100 or so to do tomorrow.
Vet has samples and will send off tomorrow so hopefully hear something but couldn’t wait any longer to act on it. Didn’t have any afterbirth for them before this am. Think it’s enzo but we’ll have to wait and see.
Bloody nightmare! Along with all the other suicide fortnight problems I’m already over this lambing!

If it is enzo as you think it should nip it
