Access ….. again

Location
West Wales
We don’t have control over our access due to a home owner one side and a farmer who refuses to cut trees and the council refuse to do anything.

the house has a roof that sticks out into the road at a very awkaward which means it gets knocked quite frequently despite our best efforts. After a recent incident with a lorry knocking down a Pilar the home owner had re erected it and built a fence as he says the lorry’s come to close to the house. ( no issue here)

today one of the boys has rang me to say he is now building another wall which goes outside of the Bollards that the council installed in order to mark his property. I’m taking a few inches but it’s right in a pinch point.

I don’t want to fall out about it with him and again understand his reasoning but obviously my priority is to protect my access. My suspicion is he is setting us up for a fall in that by narrowing it even more it’s more likely to be hit thus giving him a case to argue.

so in summary what can be done if someone builds a wall that sticks out into a council road?

Call Highways at the local Council... they will soon sort him out.

on the council website here( monmouthshire )there is a fix my path bit where you can report overhanging ,dangerous limbs ,overgrown hedges etc.the council have to act either cut it ,tell owner to cut it ,or get a contractor in to cut it and charge owner

I had this at my old place, chap built a large random stone flower bed out into the road, another neighbour caught it with the drop for his tailift on his hgv, this broke it from its foundations and tipped it on its side, every now and again I’d sit it back upright or vice-versa on my way back from the pub🤣 after about 5 years he gave up and demolished it himself.

Personally I’d be down with the loader this afternoon and route it out the way “Kill or be killed”.
