Acid reflux

Having head the side effects of omeprazole my husband came off them (his dad was also on them) Better to find out the reason for acid and its a natural imbalance in the gut. My OH now follows a strict diet - paleo based and doesn't hardly touch alcohol over the years seen an improvement only when he is stressed does it return. Also went for the fitness and building the core muscles up. Omeprazole has been proved to bring on Alzheimers.
My entire direct family live on omeprazole for acid.
I decided to try cutting things out. Hence I no longer eat wheat.
I'd rather do that than pop pills daily.

Mrs is on double dose pantoprazole for acid. Following a private consult it seems that it is more likely bile being drawn up due to a hiatus hernia.

She went in for an endoscopy the other day under sedation.......we think she punched one of the theatre staff but they are keeping quiet about it....procedure abandoned at the second attempt!

Sorry to hear bout this :( there are also some herbal remedies you can take that will help along with the AB's. You can order echinaecia drops off Amazon, Vogel I think it's called. Also a cough mixture, made by same company I think. I used to take it and it helped soothe stuff. Plenty of vitamins, plenty of warm drinks like honey and lemon and such. Plenty of rest. Inhalations also... These help massively and to break up the stuff in the chest, about twice daily, deep breaths, warm water, a few drops of sweet fennel, albasoyl or thyme oil. Any of the 3, but not all 3 together ofc. I think if it's not shifting alongside doing all this make sure you get prescribed antibiotics, I don't want you getting pneumonia, brother had that and it was very serious, or indeed lung infection. If need be you can call Dr out to visit :)
All the best x

My OH was on full rate omeprazole for years, used to swig gaviscon too and still had issues. She went to an NHS specialist who had a look in her stomach with a camera and declared all was fine and just keep on with the meds. He mentioned her stomach was full of polyps, but that was nothing to worry about, a normal side effect of omeprazole!

After visiting a nutritionist and being diagnosed with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and food intolerances, she has been given a diet to follow and is now off all meds. She has to avoid sugars and easily digested carbs, among other things, something a paleo diet probably achieves too.

The sting in the tail with omeprazole is that it works by lowering the stomach pH, which allows undesirable bacteria through and gives you SIBO, if you didn't already have it. SIBO is a major cause of reflux!

I’m only asking as Rhys’s consultant has just phoned with his results but it still shows reflux even though he’s on domperidone, lansoperazole, gaviscon advanced and ketotifen so wandered how accurate they were as they only managed a few seconds scan

I have a Hiatus Hernia, discovered after the camera down the throat inspection.Been on Omeprazole since for last two years, no side effects.
Avoid spicy foods and sleep with your head higher than your stomach helps.

If they see the reflux happening then that's accurate really. Might only be a little bit though, hopefully, but they have to report what they see. You could ask the consultant is there was much or little reflux seen.
Maybe just his age contributing to slightly weaker oesophageal sphincter? Notwithstanding his other issues.

Thank you, they did the scan to see if it showed any other issues lower down in his stomach so I was just a bit taken a back that they still saw reflux with everything he’s on
