How long does it take you to organise a quote . Do all you Insurances finish at the same time

about 5 mins to create and send an email

then a couple more emails to answer a few additional questions

when i had the quotes we had a 3hr meeting to go through it all (as i would have had if i had simply renewed)

not a lot of time at all - well worth it for a 6k saving i reckon
Do a breakdown of what your require on a pdf and then email it to a few insurers of choice. Sit back and wait for the quotes. If you like the quote go through it again with a fine toothcomb to check you are getting all you want. My experience isn't that insurers are out to catch you out with lower quality quotes - they just want to get you in and keep you in with the cover you think you are getting.

You can arrange them all to finish at the same time.

i just emailed out my renewal docs with prices removed

not a lot of effort at all

I thought you weren't allowed to do that?

I can't understand how some farmers are still in business when
they fail to grasp insurance and the objective of the insurer who are sales
people at the end of the day.
Insurance has been competitive for well over a decade and
is relatively easy to get quotes so failure to do so shows a
lack of understanding of running efficiently.

I've had regular quotes and NFU Mutual have been best value in last 5 years
but you do have to look at exact cover like for like.
Others might be cheaper but more basic.

I have insured private cars using online providers several times, used to be much cheaper than the NFUM and independent brokers, but not any more.
Any idea why?

I concur to what you're saying.
A few years ago NFUM weren't in the running on our motor vehicles
but seem more or less inline nowadays.

I think some farmers believe their broker is acting in their best interests.....and that the broker is doing the shopping around for them so they don't have to.

A bit of an outdated situation now I'm afraid.

If the farmer wrote a cheque out to the insurance company, and a separate one out to the broker....I think the market might be shaken up rather a lot.

In that "their" quote is their property?

Its just a statement of cover I did exactly the same when I moved from Nfu to mole valley so you can get a quote for the same std of insurance.
Personally I’m glad Clive shared his experience and good on acres for sharing there commission and just coming on the forum to share info I think it’s great.
I can only assume with negativity people think Clive is using his savings to fund veganism or something?

I have been banging on for 25 plus years that Insurance is another farming cost that can often benefit from serious scrutiny. Not many people would buy a new piece of machinery, fertiliser or seed without obtaining alternative quotes, why should Insurance be any different? As with all input purchases you have to study the spec and the after service closely as price is not necessarily the most important point here.
We probably see worthwhile savings with something like 80% of farms we quote on these days, whilst providing wider cover.
There is truth in that if you obtain quotes every year that Insurers soon get fed up with quoting. Once every 3 years is about right. A good Broker who is not complacent should be doing that for you. I cannot refute the criticism that far too many Brokers & Insurers are complacent.
I am quite happy to say to all Forum members that if you would like our commission figure separated out so that you have a truly transparent price we would be happy to do it.
Finally- Sorry to disappoint some of you but Clive didn't get a special price! Underwriters don't pay too much regard to who they are insuring only previous claims history, quality of risk and relationship with the placing Broker.
