I thought acres only did car insurance? Any website as google only shows the one I’ve heard of.

I have been banging on for 25 plus years that Insurance is another farming cost that can often benefit from serious scrutiny. Not many people would buy a new piece of machinery, fertiliser or seed without obtaining alternative quotes, why should Insurance be any different? As with all input purchases you have to study the spec and the after service closely as price is not necessarily the most important point here.
We probably see worthwhile savings with something like 80% of farms we quote on these days, whilst providing wider cover.
There is truth in that if you obtain quotes every year that Insurers soon get fed up with quoting. Once every 3 years is about right. A good Broker who is not complacent should be doing that for you. I cannot refute the criticism that far too many Brokers & Insurers are complacent.
I am quite happy to say to all Forum members that if you would like our commission figure separated out so that you have a truly transparent price we would be happy to do it.
Finally- Sorry to disappoint some of you but Clive didn't get a special price! Underwriters don't pay too much regard to who they are insuring only previous claims history, quality of risk and relationship with the placing Broker.

Emailed on Wednesday with a list of vehicles to quote for,no reply as yet.

I normally rate a business on communications,if they can’t communicate for a quote they haven’t got a chance when you really need them.

I think you replied the day I posted the above, once communication started I will hand to Acres the lad handling it was excellent and despite it being his day off emailed,he also emailed on Sunday.

Acres came in with the best quote in the end so we’re now with Acres.?

I made contact with Acres in July 19 and had a visit within a few weeks where all details were taken. Our insurance renewal is March so I made contact with them mid January 20 to get the ball rolling. Today we’ve still not had a quote. Any questions asked have been answered and this was initiated well before CV reared it’s head.

Many farmers local to me insure with a firm from Worcester called Barpacs.
Not tried them yet, but have heard good things.
I’ve split my Insurance this year as F&M were completely out on the motor. They were the best on the farm however.

My insurance was split once but I was pleased when it could be put back together again - saves anything being lost between the cracks, and adds simplicity having only one contact too.

I would normally advise against splitting insurance between different Brokers/Companies as Steevo says too much opportunity in the event of a major claim for finger pointing and saying its your responsibility not mine. Its ok having different Insurers involved if your Broker is coordinating it.
Warksfarmer, your comments concern me! Not the service I would normally expect. I will PM you to try and obtain full details and get to the bottom of it. We are doing in excess of 100 quotes a month at the moment and picking up 55-60% of them. Too hear that even one quote has fallen through the cracks is not good enough and at the least I would like to find an explanation.

I’m sure I’ll get them back together soon, however, there was about £3k difference between the motor quotes and £1k between the farm quotes

A very worthwhile saving. A bit like Covid 19 cases - once you've got insurance low, it's easier to keep it low. If you leave it unchecked - it goes mad and becomes very costly! :D
